Problem Identification: A Troll in Champion Selection

This needs to be addressed by Riot

It has come to my attention that a lot of players are not satisfied with the dodge-mechanic built into champion selection.

What is dodging and why do I want to do it? • Dodging is when you exit the League of Legends client during champion select. Instead of playing through the entire game to lose a large sum of League Points, you quit champion select to lose a small sum of League Points. You are also unable to queue for a short time, depending on how often you dodge games. • The number one reason to dodge a game is because you were counter-picked. Your opponent picked a champion that beats your champion fairly easily. • Another reason to dodge is because you fear that your allied players are going to troll you. A lot of players play this game with the mindset of; "If I do not get what I want for a champion and/or position, I will grief the game for my team." Sometimes players decide to troll you because they were counter-picked.

Why does the troll not dodge the game? • Riot punishes you for dodging a game. Why would the troll willingly take a slap on the wrists when they could just play the game or possibly convince someone else to dodge?

Why do we not have a system to dodge a game without getting punished? • Players will use that system to dodge a game if their champion is counter-picked.

Why should players be punished for dodging a game if their champion is counter-picked? Why do I have to wait 20 minutes to surrender? • There is a reason ranked games do not have blind-pick. That reason is; Champion selection is where the game starts. You need to know what champions are strong against your champions and vise versa. • Players would rarely, if ever, play a full game if they were free to dodge without ramifications. League of Legends would, most likely, become a glorified game of rock, paper, scissors.

I am posting this to help players understand the situation of champion selection.

Here's my opinion: • There should be a dodge button added. Having to log back in kind of sucks. :P • There should be a "report player" button next each player username at all times. Not just in the post-game. You can limit the number of times you can report a player per queue. • There should be a "honor player" button next to each player username at all times. Not just in the post-game. You can limit the number of times you can honor a player per queue. • Riot should take five minutes off the minimum time to surrender per player disconnected on your team. No players disconnected? Twenty minutes minimum. One player disconnected? Fifteen minutes minimum. Two players disconnected? Ten minutes minimum. Three players disconnected? Five minutes minimum? Four players disconnected? Boy aren't you lucky. Zero minutes minimum.

What do you think should be changed or added? What better ways can we deal with a troll in champion selection?

I know it won't happen, but I think people should just suck it up. Maybe everyone should start to learn how to play all the roles and become familiar with at least two champs per role. So if someone in the draft picks something that you preferred above you, you wouldn't "have" to troll or dodge. You would be able to fill wherever or at least have a secondary or tertiary preference.

I, personally, can play Top (Riven, Jax), Mid (Heimerdinger), Jungle (Gragas, Nautilus, Jax) and ADC (Ashe), semi-effectively. Enough that I can feel comfortable in any spot, other than Support. Which, if I have to I can do with Nautilus. (Don't be toxic about the champs I use. Everyone has their preferences)

It just comes down to being mature and flexible. If you don't like the fact that you can't get what you want, then go back to kindergarten and learn that sharing is caring. Sometimes, as humans, we have to make sacrifices. Not just in this game, but in real life.

I wouldn't want people to file reports mid-game.

  1. They'd waste time on that rather than paying attention.
  2. They'd report the guy who gave up first blood, messed up a gank, etc., instead of judging the player's behavior as a whole.

Being able to file a report pregame if you dodge would be helpful. You can file a support ticket if someone was griefing you, but it's a clunky process.

I totally agree on early surrender if your team is shorthanded.

There should be a vote to kick option in champion select and have somebody who gets kicked like this has to wait for 5-6 minutes before they can rejoin
