Why even bother dominating your lane?

I mean this is just a thought on random occasions. But what is the big deal of needing to dominate your lane over your lane opponent?

You can have higher CS. You can have faster itemization than your lane opponent. You can take half of the game's time to finish off your lane opponent's turrets. BUT, even though you may have achieved all of the above, there WILL ALWAYS be a point in-game where:

  • you took 10 minutes to kill your lane opponent's turret & leaves, while the enemy opponent took the chance and takes down your turret in less than 10 seconds.
  • you successfully manage to go 8/0 against your 0/8 lane opponent, and while you split, your dumb-ass team gave your lane opponent back to 8/8.

Like tell me, why does it always has to happen like this? Huh?

Happens to me all the time as an ADC..

I made sure the other carry had a bad time... 0/4....

Wait a minute.. why are they now 16/4 ?!

Honestly, it's a team game.

It's not about what happens in lane, it's about what you do with it.

Are you 8/0? Then why are you still in lane? Your lane opponent isn't even worth gold at that point, try to get 8/0/16 by helping your teammates out.

Teammates struggling because they keep getting ganked, but nobody ganks your lane because you're too scary for the enemy jungler? Ward and shove that lane so hard you force the entire enemy team to come because you're at their inhibitor, and be gone (or TP/recall out) because you had vision and knew your scheme worked. Rift Herald optional.

Need dragon stacks? Get dragon stacks.

There are plenty of things to do, and dominating your lane is just one. But you can't win just by lane alone, and it's silly to think that. Even if some people don't like the fact that teamwork can trump solo carry, honestly it's better to carry and use teamwork. If you dominate lane, help your team dominate the game.

Hypothetically, it means that you're helping your whole team by taking down a tower and giving global gold while the enemy is not. It also hypothetically means that you can safely leave your lane and roam to help out other lanes while your enemy laner tries to make up lost ground.

In reality, winning your lane can be a temporary lead because of things like other lanes losing and negating your advantage, or the rest of your team feeding your laner kills. It's up to you to use the XP and gold lead you got from winning your lane to snowball either yourself or a teammate into a hard carry before your advantage is lost for whatever reason. Unfortunately, if your team just want to throw, sometimes there's just not a lot you can do. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't stop it from drowning itself.

Also, with the new minions this coming patch, teams that win lanes get stronger minions automatically. So there's that.

since the game is so team fight oriented now dominating lane is kinda over rated as long as you don't die your just gonna end up being in a team fight anyway

Because if you get your team a level advantage then all lanes will auto push in your favor. At least, with the pre-season it will.

Some games you can split push and some games you can't. If you can't tell that there are games that you need to go help your team, or you simply refuse to do that then yes you deserve to lose that game. Your lane opponent capitalized on your stubbornness, congrats.
