I love the game but I've gone over the course of 4 years from a Riot fanboy (something they sorta deserved at the time) to someone who has little to no respect for Riot has a whole. I don't hate the individuals, but the company is, compared to what it was, disgustingly self-absorbed. Honestly, I know people are gonna say ''only those who complain come to the boards'' but I don't think that's exactly true. While, yes, you're more likely to come here to bring up something that you would like to see changed, IMO the boards community is the more passionate players. You don't consult medias relating to the game unless you care enough about it to wanna get involved OUTSIDE the game.
A lot of players don't give a single fuck about lore and would play this game even if Ashe was, in the lore, a professor of mathematics at a Wisconsin community college. But people on the board would lose their shit and for a good reason. And yet, Riot does not care about what those people who love the game so much that they are willing to step out of it and talk about it think. It's quite sad, honestly. Morde is just the latest example of that. The rework is almost universally hated by the boards community and IMO it is an abomination that needs to be reverted, but you know what? I understand that a REWORK is not something you simply erase. Fair enough, you've completely destroyed a champion a lot of people loved. Why does Riot feel the need to change his title, even though ONCE AGAIN this is received with massively negative feedback. And for what? So the people who just play the game and probably will never even notice Morde's title was changed don't get confused by a tidbit of the lore they will never read? You know a game's gone to shit when the people who are most interested in it are the ones most actively ignored by the creators of the game and everything around it.
I could also talk about skins, skin prices, events, the lore in general, the lore of specific champions, other reworks, balance, to illustrate my point. Some are more valid than others (ignoring your community lore-wise is inexcusable, balance should probably be handled by professionals, however), but the conclusion remains the same : Riot does not care.
So, no, you're not the only who still enjoys the game itself. I love playing League of Legends. I'll even let you in on a little secrets : I really don't know where all this talk of afks and ragers and trolls in every game is coming from, from my personal experience those players are exceedingly rare and I encounter one maybe once every 20-30 games AT WORST. I love playing ARAM, I love going mid on SR and playing whatever mage I feel like playing at the moment, I love supporting my team and setting them up for plays, I love being an AD carry that eats alive whatever wants to mess with me. But everything else is, IMO, slowly being ruined by greed, laziness, complacency, stupidity or the lack of efforts to understand what the more passionate players who do deserve to be heard think and feel.
Edit : Wow, this turned out way longer than I expected.
