Detecting and banning extreme Intentional Feeders

Hey everyone,

As some of you may have heard, the Tribunal is a system that addresses many types of player behaviors but is currently in extended maintenance while we upgrade a lot of the core functionality. You can read more about it here: http://na.leagueoflegends.com/en/news/game-updates/player-behavior/upgrading-tribunal

In the meantime, we've launched several test systems that have begun aggressively reducing negative player behaviors in League of Legends including a system with the ability to instantly escalate high severity behaviors such as excessive verbal abuse, racism, sexism, homophobia and worse to a 14-day or permanent ban. After several weeks of testing in North America, we are now ready to start these tests on the European servers. We'll continue to monitor the results of these tests as we prepare to roll them out in other regions.

The reason I'm here today though, is because while these systems are effective at reducing negative verbal behaviors in League, we've been working on ways to address negative gameplay behaviors in League.

Starting 8/26/2014 in North America, we’ll be rolling out a test system capable of immediately escalating extreme intentional feeders straight to a 14-day or permanent ban. Like our other punishment systems, we’ll start with conservative tests to minimize false positives, and then expand the system to be more aggressive. As with our other experiments, depending on the results, we’ll roll out similar tests to the other servers.

How confident are you in the systems ability to discern between an intentional feeder, and a player on tilt?

I admit, I really am scared. I've had some bad games in normals that were just...well, bad. I never, EVER intentionally feed. I do everything I can NOT to feed. But I was accused of feeding once and I'm scared of what could happen if people just get mad and report you for feeding anyways. I'm talking about games where you just had a lot of trouble in lane and it felt like there was nothing you could do. You don't go into lane to feed, but its like the enemy is so fed that even sitting under your tower results in a kill for them. THAT sort of bad game. I think we've all had at least one.

Those games I'm scared of. I usually report for verbal abuse but rarely for feeding because I know sometimes you just have a bad game. I don't know how this will be seen from the point of view of the screeners though.

I think the biggest question has already been addressed...

Some games are horrendous .. And when those occur, a teammate may say.. Report for intentional feeding.. There is a difference between having a bad game and going 0/10/7 and a teammate starting out 0/0/7, having enough and running straight down mid into turret/enemy team without launching an offensive just to feed kills.

I believe since the system is being set up as a test, we should know the parameters in which can be considered a ban-able offense.

IMO, intentional feeding is much harder to judge on a non human level then verbal vulgarity or use of the "ism's". It appears as if there would be a LARGER room for error.

I want to know how much feeding is a red flag. I assume it's probably taken over multiple games rather than one, so a really bad game won't put you at risk. I played Fiddlesticks for the first time today, and when I was at 1/7/7 both the top and mid laner were being extremely toxic and threatening to report me for feeding (they probably did report). I know that is too little to get a warning/ban, but there will be a day when I do far worse.

Do you know whats the biggest joke in league of legends justice? When the mid laner is a 1/12 ...i dunno lets say leblanc, and there is a 10/1 for ex, tristana bot lane, and she says something like lb stop feeding, then leblanc reports her for "verbal abuse" and "offensive behaviour" even tho she and her feeding is the reason of the behaviour in the first place. So justice = feeder who ruined game is free 2 go, pro adc with 10/1 who did his best to carry an almost unwinable game gets banned or chat blocked. Where is the justice in that? If any chatblock the 1/12 and give the 10/1 a helpful honnor badge. I mean i know the people saying the game is for fun, but if you feel like being a 1/12 mid laner who ruins the game for a 10/1 pro is fun.... then there is no place for you in ranked, go back to normals or arams

Silver V: I was destroyed by someone, 0/20/3, a few months ago. My entire team reported me for feeding. A few minutes later I got a message from a challenger account saying that he was sorry for targeting me on his smurf account and he felt bad that my whole team was mad at me for dying to him. I probably would have been perma-banned by this Nazi style autoban system because someone decided they wanted to be a big badass against someone who was way beneath his skill level. Autobanning on this level is complete crap.
