Its pretty simple: put the history of a champion or a region or something into the load screen. Give us something to read while we wait. Maybe have it be related to the champions in the game even.
You could track what people have seen so they don't see one thing over and over too, wouldn't be too hard.

For a more ambitious initiative, I'd like to mention Factions as a community-run demonstration of something that Riot could adopt to make the story feel more real and player-driven.
AbiwonKenabi2 votesYes, they need something like the Noxus vs Ionia match long ago. Players actually playing out the battle in the League of Legends to determine how the story ends. That's what the League was made for (lore wise at least). Riot sees the results of perhaps many games played out by players, perhaps through one of their featured game modes, and they create an ending for the story.

Plus wouldn't you trade an extra second of load time (on the worse than worst days) for a minute of stuff to read while you wait? I would.
