Common Sense and Ranked Play
DISCLAIMER: This post is, and for the foreseeable future will be, a work in progress. When I have the time and inspiration, I will add new sections. Any suggestions are welcome and appreciated.
Introduction Does the title look fancy and make me sound smart? I hope so, because I spent a whole 30 seconds thinking it up. This is basically a collection of musings about Ranked play and its culture, most of which are oriented around principles that I generally feel that Ranked players should have but far too often don't. Without further ado, musing number one.
Flaming No, I'm not going to make the generic "Don't flame because it's not nice" argument. While that is perfectly valid, there are other reasons not to do so. First of all, there's the fact that if you harass a teammate, they won't very much like you, and this will decrease their chances of helping you out if you get in a bind. If the flaming takes place because of a mistake, the victim may even refuse to correct the aforementioned mistake, simply in order to spite the flamer. More importantly, when you're flaming, you're typing in chat and not playing. Ergo, when you flame, YOU ARE NOT PLAYING TO THE BEST OF YOUR ABILITY. That's a serious problem.
TL;DR: Flaming hurts your own performance
Champion Experience Generally, before playing a champion in Ranked, you should have NO LESS THAN 5 good Normals with that champ, in order to figure out their mechanics/ability timing/et cetera. While the definition of a "good" game differs from person to person, I deem a game of my own "good" if it meets the following criteria:
- KDA is at least 1.15:1
- CS is no less than: Mid/Top: 80 ADC: 100 Jungle: 40 Support: n/a While I'm all for trying new things, it's not really fair to your teammates if you just bought a champ and go into a ranked game playing said champ with no prior experience whatsoever. TL;DR: Do it in a Norms first
That's the extent of this post for right now, but keep in mind that I'm still adding onto it. Suggestions for new sections and feedback are always welcome, so feel free to let me know how I can improve this post. If you found it helpful, go ahead and share it with your friends/acquaintances/Great-Auntie Mathilde/dog/shoes/cashier, and let me know in the poll below. Thank you for taking the time to read to the end, and happy Summoning!
