Well, there are a lot of psychological reasons why people can't climb and use the notion of elo hell to convince themselves that they are better than they are, but there is an interesting statistical fluctuation that may also be at play here.

There is a 4/9 chance a troll is on your team and a 5/9 chance it is on the enemies, but over a lot of games there will be a variance of this ratio for an individual player. This is why elo hell does exist for some people. You really can have more trolls/afks on your teams than the enemies and the number of games everyone has to play to ensure that no one in the community has this can be astonishing.

Lets say you have 100 games with trolls in them. The odds that you have 51 on your team and 49 on the other are,

100 choose 49 * 4/9 ^ 51 * 5/9 ^ 49 = 3.3%

then you can add 52/48,

100 choose 48 4/9 ^ 52 5/9 ^ 48 = 2.5%

and so on and so on. It comes out at ~11 % of people fall into this. With 27 million players daily that is nearly 3 million players. That's what elo hell is, a statistical fluctuation, and that is very real.

Statistically speaking, somewhere out there is one poor bastard on a streak with 21 straight games that have that troll on his team, and none on the other team. Try telling that guy elo hell doesn't exist.

you play with 2/5 or 3/5 feeders no matter how many times you gank roam or help them get kills and see how you like it. oh and that's over half of games. some people are impossible to carry.

i mean, the concept of elo hell is real, being good enough to get fed but not enough to carry with your lead. ELO hell has nothing to do with your team it's just your level of play, where you're stuck at the elo you're at because you can't make good enough plays to win but CAN get a strong lead on your own.

elo hell that baddies use as an excuse for losing is where you can't climb because your team sucks so even though you go 20/3 you can't carry "deez fokking nobs on my team!!!!!!" making an endless cycle but if that was true than no one would be high elo.
