We always see posts about "It's not the jungler job to win your lane"
As a prenote this focuses only on the jungler, what other lanes are supposed to do is for another time and will not be discussed in this post. Also not every game is perfect while some subjects in this post may be treated in that manner please realize anyone can only do so much.
Junglers continuously say this. I hate when people blame me that they go 0/3/0 because they pick fights when im not around or they dont ward.
However the statement of "its not the junglers job to win your lane" is misleading to what a jungler is actually supposed to do.
So what is the junglers job?
Well first and foremost a jungler is out of the top lane allowing for more experience and gold to be gained by the team, it allows a relatively unseen presence and force in the game that can suddenly change the tides of a lane.
It is not the junglers job to keep you from going 0/3/0 and getting wrecked in lane.
HOWEVER, and i do mean however, it is absolutely the junglers job to know which match ups work and which ones dont.
Did your top lane pick irelia and the enemy counter by picking chogath? Chances are the irelia wont really be able to do much. As the jungler it is your responsibility (yes im looking at myself aswell) to try your best to ensure that the lane fares well for irelia. Not much for the irelia's sake, but more so that the chogath doesnt become a monster by stacking HP, which he will do and is a direct counter to irelia. If you wait for the cho to have his RoA and 6 stacks before ganking (just for reference chogath will probably have around 3k hp with these two, meanwhile irelia will probably have half of that) you are going to have a bad time.
Or how about if your bot lane chose vayne and they got countered by a graves? Yes bot lane has a support but as a jungler you should know that graves counters vayne early game. Get both you and your bot lane ahead by ganking and ensuring graves has his power spike later. Most junglers are building tanky now so you have no excuse saying graves has a ton of burst.
A gank does not have to result in a kill! If you can continuously kick an enemy out of lane then you have done your job by giving your laner some breathing room and some time to hopefully gain an advantage.
Not every lane will be counter picked since thats just how the draft mode works, some of your lanes will have the advantage, other lanes will be at a disadvantage. Immediately know which lanes will be at a disadvantage and make them your prospective targets for most of your ganks.
Well you might say, what if all the lanes are relatively evenly matched? Then it is your job as jungler to know which of your lanes has the most snowball potential and abuse that. On the inverse you also need to know which enemy will snowball most and try to keep them down ref nasus.
This doesnt mean you have to pitch a tent, you totally can if you want tho...
Lastly you definitely have to know your match ups against your opposing jungler. Is he stronger in a 1v1 or are they stronger in a 2v2 or 3v3. If they are stronger in a 1v1 but weaker in a 2v2 or 3v3 you want to take those chances and punish that sucker for any gank he makes. If he is stronger in a 2v2 or 3v3 then punish him by invading his jungle. Surprise that jerk whos trying to gank your lanes by bear slapping him in the face as udyr, or punch his face in as vi. Teach him to think twice before entering his jungle effectively cutting off the jungle routes to ganks.
The jungler is definitely a stategians role. Scheme those schemes, know your enemies weaknesses, know your allies weaknesses. Its not your fault that the your bot lane went 0/3/0 because they picked dumb fights. However it is your fault that chogath got those 6 stacks and has 4k hp by 15 mins, because your top lane is 0/0/0 and knew they were not in a favorable lane so they played safe and didnt push hoping that you would gain some common sense and gank.
This is a team based game, doesnt matter what people say about soloQ, its still a team based game, act like a team, know when and were to help. Even with diamond players i still see junglers who do not understand this. Its frustrating to see people blame laners when everyone knew it was a bad lane for the ally. Look at your own faults before you blame others (aka) how could I have played that better.
TL:DR Jungler is a cop his job is to help the civilians. Know the usual suspects. It is your fault for letting allies become victims of circumstance, it is not your fault if they decide to be an idiot and get themselves shot and killed.
