What can he even do besides a single-target root, a useless bush & a mini-shield? Even a Taliyah Support does it better. Might as well just pick a couple of tank champions for better engages & a Janna or Soraka for proper CC disengagement & heals.
Only one I can think of that would benefit highly is 
since her passive is doubled in bushes. Late game if you stick a bush over her in teamfights every 2 attacks would proc her passive
Nothing is. Plane and simple. I hate getting them. I hate Ivern period lol. But he's a different addition to the game so he's alright.
You literally said it yourself, a root and a shield. Hes not great right now but he has utility
