That solution is a nice, multipurpose one that answers a lot of questions, like "How To Remove The Majority Of The Player Base", for example. Because a lot of people don't care for games asking for personal information.
Your age has very little to do with your attitude as a person. There are just as many upbeat and try-hard 13 year olds as 18 as 26 year olds, which is to say very few on all accounts.
The system would need to recognize the different ways of registration on drivers licenses in every country as well which would be next to impossible to implement.
