@Riot Lore Team

Why is the new direction of Lore such that we don't get reason for champions joining the League? I know a while back a Rioter said "We want players to come up with Reasons.", but truthfully that isn't all that helpful. Some champions just don't make clear sense as to why they are in the league.

Is it possible that we could ever get Lore related to champions joining the League? Maybe each champ could have their own little story like we get now, but then have another page with their journey to the League of Legends.

I wanna say that I'm all for this. I love knowing about the champions but their motivations for fighting and joining are just as important to me.

I hate to tell you this, but getting any version of any Riot Lore team to respond to anything posted is nigh impossible. Previous lore teams have rendered that community (myself included) so full of anger and frustration that any Red that responds to anything related to Lore gets overwhelmed with responses and comments.

As far as the reasons for joining the League go, the company has been on a quest to remove all references of the Institute of War from the story. All rewrites, special events and reworks have been going in this direction since the Shadow Isles in 2012.

It would be nice if we could actually get a response from Riot on this.

This was in the top 5 for "Hot" for at least 2 days, no response. Dropped off the face of the planet sometime Monday morning. Still no response.

I'm legit going to start stalking Rioters whenever I find them posting on the old forums, and if I ever see a Red post anywhere here on the Boards on a relevant topic, you can be sure I'll comment to them there, too.

They say it's because the inclusion of the IoW made it harder to write.

In reality it's because there is no good financial reason for extensive lore to exist and consequently there is no reason for anything outside of small write ups about the champions themselves. The IoW and everything related only serves to complicate the matter.

Well, most of times it' s said clearly why a determined champion joins the league: for example all the Void related characters join in order to consume alien forces ( in particolar Vel' Kroz wants to "consume knowledge" ), others because they seek challenge ( Rengar, Braum ), others for political influences ( Alistair, Ashe, Lissandra ), others for military propaganda ( Elise, most of the Noxians), others do it for their own pleasures ( Aatrox, Kartus, DRAVEN ) plus miscellaneous as gathering information or knowledge ( Yasuo, Amumu, Xerath ) or training for a later objective ( Gnar ).

The problem mostly is why the Institute, if it still exist, allows them. As far as i know they aim to be the absolute neutrality, and sometimes ther emight be a puppetmaster behind the scenes that can allow things, but also about extraplanar forces? Most of times it' s said that some champions are rather caged by the League and used in the fields of justice in order to keep them under control ( Brand, Fiddle, Nocturne, Renek) but it suffices?

About story developement, for obvious reasons it can' t develop very much: the story of the game is in the moment you join, and does not carry over for successive matches. Ashe might become the queen if you win against Liss or Sejuani, but that can' t impact successive matches for obvious reasons; for the same reason they can' t end the war between those 3 even lore-related, else they will lack a meaning to be.

With these premises, story developement can be really really narrow: besides few things like Kalamandra, Janna' s leaked nudes, the Pentakills, fanservice about weapons ( how much red steel is present in the Executioner ' s Calling? NONE BECAUSE NO MORE GIVES LS ) aren't really pleasant to read and all looks like filler, even if in the whole the idea is good; it' s the case of the Journal, and you see how it ended, even a big reader like me could not handle all that! Other stuff like Frejlord events, the Ionia' s liberation war and such are cool things that can' t be done very often else they become rushed and with less value.

They are destroying little bits of lore, just to get a better base next. Don' t worry for a total overhaul, for that you need to wait LoL2 where then they will be able to change stuff from the basement.
