Riot, what is your problem with Taric's kit?

That title may come off as confrontational, but it isn't meant that way; it's just the most concise way to word my question.

According to the champion update schedule, Taric is scheduled for a visual and gameplay update. I know that his lore is outdated as of the Great Retcon, and that his pizza-feet model needs to be redone, but why touch anything other than that? Many members of the community have their own reasons for why they don't like his kit, but Riot does not necessarily share those opinions. Consequently, I would like an official response from the Reds on this subject. What design principle(s) does Taric's kit currently violate, and how exactly does it violate them?

I am an avid Taric player, and I don't want to see my main changed needlessly. It's hard to stay loyal to a game when everything that you know and love about it is changing beneath your feet.

My money is on his point and click stun being the primary issue.

Taric's issue has always been that a lot of his power is hidden. He's gone through two minor reworks to date, where they kept all his skills largely the same, just changed some things about how they worked, how they scaled, etc. It's a similar reason as to why Sona was reworked: auras are very difficult to balance. If they're strong enough for others in the game to notice them, they're actually too strong for balanced gameplay. If the auras are balanced, the effects seen by the allies are much more nuanced, and nobody really realizes just how much help that Taric ult was in winning a teamfight, for example.

Taric is a beauty, changing his abilities is hurtfull to players like me, who stopped playing support because i was kicked for using taric, who can carry games and nobody realizes it... Its just that some people arent smart enough to use him, so they criticize him and call him trash. And the painfull thing is that taric is super easy to use, and people say hes not, which makes me cry. I seriusly hope Rito doesnt break his outrageousness. That would not be good.

I think it's the Ult aura and how it can win teamfights just for Taric standing near his teammates. Also, point and click stun.

What I think they want is for him to be a Gem Paladin. They would change the stun to a charm and he would keep his Shatter and gain a better working heal. The ult would become less binary and probably completely changed.
