I'm Doing Placements... Will I Get Gold Out of Placements?

Heya, so I'm some unranked scrub that has finally gotten around to doing placements. OP.GG says that my MMR in ranked is currently "1473" and my last match was "1409" which I believe is approximately gold MMR. My goal is to get gold straight out of placements then just not play ranked for the rest of the season, then start up again next season and get diamond, since I'll have more time to do so. I'm currently 6-1 with my only loss being on jg (I'm a scumbag Riven main), and I didn't even know I could dodge placement matches for free at the time. I'm expecting to go 8-2, maybe 9-1 in placements, as most of these people I run into are complete garbage and I can carry easily. So I'm wondering if anyone can tell me what the chances are of me getting gold straight out of placements if I go 8-2 with the MMR OP.GG says I have.

Off-topic: Ranked has the saltiest people I've ever seen... Sort of on-topic: A friend of mine recorded my last match with the op.gg recorder if anyone wants to see my play and hilariously stupid mistake when sieging mid outer tower. EDIT: But the enemy team I was against was awful and had some stupid Urgot jungle, rager Fizz mid that purchased an account, Karma top (wtf?), and Yasuo adc. Also off-topic: Not sure if this is in the right boards section, as I don't really go to boards much.

EDIT 2: If someone could go into detail on why or why not that would be great, thanks! EDIT 3: Thanks for the replies! I've been noticing there's a lot of conflicting information though. I'm guessing there's no concrete information on this.

It's possible. The highest you can get placed is Plat 1, however odds are good you'll be somewhere in silver. They are just odds though, so keep your hopes high until you're done with them all.

Oh, you can get placed in plat? Dang, and I thought gold 1 was the highest. Well I'm just hoping for gold, if KDA affects where I get placed at all then I'll probably do fine since I've stomped in 6 of 7 of my yolo queue games. If ranked team games affect it too, then RIP 'cause I lost both of two played.

I forgot my actual score for placements, but it was something very close to 5-5 and I was placed into gold. A loss against high MMR opponents means far more than a win against baddies.

If you don't get gold you'll probably get high silver, and so it's a fairly short climb up from there.

Thanks for the info! I'm at "1473 mmr", I don't know if that's gold or not. I think it is, not sure though.

I'm already 6-1, the people I've been matched up against even though op.gg says "1400 mmr" are complete garbage. Expecting 8-2/9-1.

First thing to keep in mind, op.gg's MMR rating is not your true MMR, it's only an estimate, so it's very possible your true MMR is below (or above) what it states.

Now, I looked at your ranked history and noticed that this is your first season playing ranked. Since this is your first time, it is actually quite unlikely that you will be placed in Gold after your first 10 placement matches. You either have to win all 10 of your games, or win 9 and be very lucky with your MMR gains. Otherwise, it's likely that you will be placed in high Silver.

I remember gosu on his 24 hour stream went 10-0 and got gold 2. I can dream, right? Also, 9-1 is very realistic for me! I've been hearing a lot of different opinions, I'm pretty confused at the moment.

If he went 10-0 and got placed in Gold 2, then that account must have been ranked from the previous season, likely somewhere in low gold/high silver. An account's ranking from a previous season will affect where they are placed in the next season.

For you, though, this is your first season playing ranked, correct? If so, then you have no previous rank to help you, meaning you start where everyone who is new to rank starts, Silver 5. The highest you will be able to place is Gold 5, and that is only possible with 10-0 placement matches, or possibly 9-1 if you get very lucky with your MMR gains.

if you go 10-0 there is a chance of you getting gold V. Ultimately it depends on if you win and what mmr your opponents had.

I don't know if it's possible to place in gold without a rank from the previous season. Your MMR might be gold but the ranking system might still place you in silver because you're "unranked" and might have had a "lucky win streak." That said, climbing will be silly easy and you'll probably spend most your games in your promos.

I'm pretty sure it's possible, as I've seen other people go 10-0 and get placed in high gold. It's good to know that climbing will be easy though, part of the reason I want to get gold out of placements is because I'm scared of the hell that might accompany when I start climbing out of silver if I get put in silver.

Were they people who played ranked for the first time that went 10-0? Or were they people who played ranked from the previous season? Someone said that the highest rank you can get out of placements is plat 1 but that is only half true. You can place that high if your rank from the previous season was that high (so Diamond+ will usualy place plat 1 in the new season). But a bronze player who goes 10-0 wont place plat 1. The same is true for players that have no rank history. I don't know what the highest an unrakned player can place but I suspect Riot wouldn't let a player into gold based on 10 games alone.

Yeah, people that played for the first time. But this was season 4, so things may have changed. I'm not up to date with all of this stuff, I barely even read patch notes unless there's a major change...

Well, you'll find out when you're done with your own placements. If you aren't gold, you'll be near enough that climbing won't be an issue.
