Season Champion Packs: Pre-purchase all champions and release skins for that year

Deep Terror Nami··14 votes·929 views

An idea for buying all champions was brought up before, and given the crazy high cost that must be, I came to the alternative of having packs sold for what would be released that season only.

  • At the beginning of the year, Riot would unlock the Seasonal Champion Pack
  • The pack will pre-purchase all champions released that year
  • Will include the release skin for the champion
  • Price will be "Placeholder price" RP for an expected 4 champions
  • Difference will be refunded for fewer releases, +Mystery Skin
  • No change in price for more releases
  • Includes any release associated icons (ex. Wolf and Lamb icons)

Player benefits:

  • Basically getting the champions free by pre-purchasing the skins
  • Price protection guarantee
  • Includes any bonus content

Riot benefits:

  • Spike in sales for the new year (or last quarter of fiscal year?)
  • Player retention due to pre-purchased content

Whatever, I'm bored. I wouldn't even pre-purchase skins because I don't always like them. Got any better ideas for yearly bundles?

I've always thought a "Membership" type of thing would be good - up voted ;)

Think of it more like an MMO subscription. The problem is when thr content releases don't keep up with the monthly payments.

How often did we all play WoW when we said, fuck it, I'm not paying for all the content I completed 3 months ago?

Deep Terror Nami1 votes

The only thing about this is that the content is going to be released and available at standard prices to everyone whether you pre-purchase it or not. The point of pre-purchasing is to get a better deal by gambling. If you hate the idea of unknown content, then you might want to lobby against Mystery Skins and reworks.

And about the content not keeping up with the payment, I addressed that already by saying if there are less releases than anticipated you are refunded the difference and receive a mystery skin as well.

Pretty good idea. Its just like DLC's season packs for COD and Destiny. Maybe Riot can modify it to their liking because its a little on sided on our part and you know how they love $$$

Please down rank this. Season passes are terrible for consumers. You're paying for unknown content with no recourse to recoup funds if the scheduled content isn't released. Worst case, you're buying an unknown product.

This is a terrible idea that Ubisoft, EA and Activision all failed with on consoles.

  • Will include the release skin for the champion

3,000 RP for 4 (975 RP) champs and 4 (975-13500 RP) skins....Dream on kid.

"Includes any release associated icons (ex. Wolf and Lamb icons)" LMFAO

I made the price heavy in the player's favor hoping a high price wouldn't automatically deter discussion. You know, except for that one guy not even talking about the topic presented.

doiminat0r36001 votes

I would agree with this except that a lot of champions haven't gotten skins in a while. Others aren't even worth playing that get skins.

Deep Terror Nami2 votes

Wait what? All new champions come with a release skin. Nothing is going to change that.

doiminat0r36001 votes

I never said anything about new champions getting skins. Im saying that some champions havent gotten a skin in a long time and others are so unreliable that they aren't even worth playing when you get a skin.

Deep Terror Nami2 votes

What champions haven't had skins in a while has absolutely nothing to do with this. Nothing at all. Please keep the discussion to the topic at hand.

doiminat0r36001 votes

Let me tell you. Kassadin Kennen Sion Taric Yorick Brand Cassiopeia Hecarim Nocturne Nunu Olaf Poppy Ryze Shen Swain Tristana Urgot Viktor

These havent gotten a skin in a long time.

on to my other point of them not being reliable

Taric Nocturne Yorick Poppy Shen Urgot Kassadin

Why would you pick those vs some others?

And on to your point of

What champions haven't had skins in a while has absolutely nothing to do with this. Nothing at all. Please keep the discussion to the topic at hand.

This is at hand because what if you bought a pack for a champion that either A. Doesn't have any skins that come out / the ones that do look like trash and you hate them B. Your champ becomes obsolete in an upcoming patch

What do you do then?

Deep Terror Nami2 votes

Dude seriously, wtf are you talking about? All champions release with a skin now. The price suggested is reduced because of the gamble that you might not like it. Did that concept just fly over your head? If it wasn't a gamble then the bundle wouldn't exist; it's just like Mystery skin/champs.

doiminat0r36001 votes

I have said nothing about release. Why do you keep saying that I've said that. What are you talking about?

Deep Terror Nami2 votes

I told you to keep the conversation to the topic at hand. This entire thread is about release champions. Is there something wrong with your brain?

I guess I have to repeat it, yet again; This thread is about pre-purchasing release champions and their skins, and has absolutely nothing to do with anything else.

I would like to point out and just say (for the record) that I like how you editted your previous comment from

And I would also like to point out that the original post talks about

At the beginning of the year, Riot would unlock the Seasonal Champion Pack

Which is, well, the first bullet. Keyword seasonal

I often make additions to my comment immediately after making it before I get a response. Sometimes a response is made in the middle of my typing; it's not like the page updates by itself.

You still have yet to say anything about the actual topic. If you are just going to derail a discussion by bringing up things irrelevant to the post, do not bother. You are merely a troll otherwise.

Do not reply to me again with your trolling.

doiminat0r36001 votes

Who's to keep me from responding and "trolling"? How is this even a troll? It's not irrelevant. It's about skins being released for a certain champion over a certain time period. Not about the very first release skin.

Deep Terror Nami1 votes

Oh wait wait, now I see why you're so lost.

You read "seasonal" and thought I mean holiday seasons.

No. Ranked seasons. I thought the title gave that away.

doiminat0r36001 votes

It says a year. Meaning from January - December. I didn't think you mean't holiday seasons. You kept mentioning release skins (which have nothing to do with the post). The actual post has to do with any skin released for said champion from January to December.

Deep Terror Nami1 votes

I want you to read the first 2 bullets.

(p.s. "release skin" does not mean "skin ever released", it means "skin available on champion's release")

doiminat0r36001 votes

And I want you to reread the first bullet.

Deep Terror Nami1 votes

Sry meant 2nd and 3rd

4 champs at considering 975 rp would be 3,900 rp value. Then you want to add the skins and only pay 3k? LOL

Deep Terror Nami1 votes

Nobody wants to buy all the champs with RP. Over the course of the year you'd have the IP for them instead. It'd be pretty shitty to buy 4 champions with RP, then come December you have a bunch of IP and nothing to buy. The price given is just a placeholder anyway.

Angry Monster1 votes

My point is that the OP is way low balling what riot could ever expect to consider. the new champs released this year are

tham ekkeo bard reksi azir kalista and we are going to get kindred. (note gnar says 1 year ago but i am not sure if that is a round or not) http://na.leagueoflegends.com/en/news/champions-skins/champion-release .

That is 7 champs that were/will be released. Also some of the release skins come out at 1350, but we will forget that. 975 x 14 (champ and skin count) is 13,650 worth of RP purchases. You are not looking at this realistically and should be addressed.

  • Player retention due to pre-purchased content

I despise schemes that artificially increase player retention. Would much rather see Riot improve player retention by continuing to improve an amazing game.
