Christmas RP/skin scams incoming, be wary!

I've just seen my first scam of the Christmas season. Please be cautious of offers that promise "Free RP/skins". Far more often than not they are just scams, and you are risking your account and personal information by going to them. They like to say they are giving away a recently released skin or some RP just for signing up and sharing their link, and are almost always distinctly different from a Twitch streamer giving RP cards which is recognizable by the verbiage used (Click this link for free RP!); if you can't find the offer through a Riot source first, it isn't an offer from Riot.

Do not share the links no matter what. If you want to report it to Riot but include the link for them, submit a Support Ticket so that other players are not exposed to the scam who otherwise wouldn't be. If you see one of these scams being shared, immediately report it.

Riot Games official pages are leagueoflegends.com, riotgames.com, or lolesports.com. If you want to see what current promotions they are offering you can find them on their support page here, and most new offers are announced on the home page of this site.

Riot censors the most common scam sites shared on the boards so that they're harmless, but the link section doesn't benefit from the filter, and some may use a link redirection service to give it a different name that isn't censored. Think twice before trying to redeem offers that seem too good to be true; more often than not, they are. Double check the URL for inconsistencies with the Riot sites if it looks real, because the scammers often create a new site that looks exactly like the official sites and is named relating to a current in-game event (Such as Harrowing or Snowdown + rewards/giveaway etc.); it's sometimes possible for your computer to be compromised without you actually giving them information, so don't even go to look at it. As I said, crosscheck with the official sites when in doubt.

If anyone actually loses their account over something like this, they clearly lack common sense and deserve it as a good life-lesson.

"Here, I have some free RP for you...I have candy in the back of my van too."

Parents, where are you into all this? Not paying enough attention to what the offspring is doing online? No? Too bad.

Additionally, please don't post the link here on the Boards even if you're asking if it's a scam or not. We'll remove that with the same warning we would for a scammer and if you do it more than once we'll permanently suspend your Boards account instantly.

We don't mess around when it comes to scams being posted on the Boards.

If it's too good to be true, it probably is. [slayer-jinx-catface]

Edit: Also, out of curiosity I googled "is there a way to get free RP?" and I got a shitton of Yahoo Answers etc referring to a shitton of fake sites, so just don't even. lol. The only semi 'free' way I know is using Bing and redeeming rewards by getting a gift card, and using that giftcard to trade in for RP, or entering tournaments with prizing. Keep in mind these are 3rd parties, so you still should be careful.
