Theories of Gangplank's future

After browsing the store this morning I noticed that gangplank no longer has any skins avalible for sale, which says to me he may not be coming back as expected. I found this very odd since I'm 99% sure that riot wouldn't waste their time and money updating a champion just to delete him from the game a week later. Riot may have just disabled everything to make the story of his death more believable or I could have a bug in the store. That being said if neither of those things is the case I have two theories as to the future of the saltwater scourge.

The first theory is that gangplank pulled a queen admidala by posing as a crew member while his first mate took on the roll of captain in the eyes of the public. I could see the pirate king being paranoid enough to do this especially if his lore is accurate and he stabbed his own father in the back. So if this is the case I'd expect to see one of his surviving crew members organize the remaining pirates, gain control of bilgewater, and later reveal himself as the real gangplank.

My other theory is that gangplank does the dread pirate Roberts thing and the name is just a title. So a gangplank may have died but there are other more experienced ones out there who could come out of retirement.

I'm probably way off base and it was just a bug or something but I think it would be neat if riot chose to do something like this.

This is just informational if you don't know who queen admidala or the dread pirate Roberts are and want to then keep reading if not feel free to skip. Queen admidala is from the three Star Wars prequels, she would often have disguise herself as a hand maiden and have a hand maiden disguised as her in order to thwart assassination attempts. The dread pirate Roberts is from the princess bride, the name was just a title that was passed down. When the current dread pirate Robert wished to retire he'd choose a replacement and train said replacement. After he felt his replacement was ready they'd replace of their current crew and the old Roberts would become the first mate for awhile before retiring and the new Roberts would be the captain. This let the name become legendary since each new Roberts would not only be attributed his own deeds but also the deeds of his predecessors.
