Everyone thinks Darius counters anyone who's melee, except one...

Irelia

I have to admit it. I know what Darius can do in order to rekt a ton of enemy melees, be it a Riven or not. But when it comes to a highly experienced Irelia, oh boy o boy, I never had someone who can get my day frustrating as fk.

For instance, she can do a surprise gimmick on me by Q'ing a 1HP minion near me & starts engaging. Only when she notices that I plan to use my Q, she would use a direct Q on me, closing the gap of my axe. Even if I were to be on the Offence using plaining my AA & W, she outsustains & outdamages me due to her True Damage & HP gain per AA kits, especially when she hits W & R (even her ult heals her...).

I mean these are just what I think about the Darius vs Irelia matchup. So tell me guys, do you think it's:

  • Irelia being an excellent counter to Darius?
  • Irelia's kit is just broken & a tad overloaded?
  • me being a noob on Darius?

dar main here, irelia does counter you, but no more then a riven does, yes, riven coounters darius. dont want to bring rank into this, but i dont think you have fought really good rivens, they can destroy darius.

I have 700k on Darius and I would agree with him. Darius having a linear play style it's easy to outplay him. Prime examples: Fiora, Riven, Yasuo, all have high outplay potential and thus can beat Darius's "linearness". Anyone can beat a Darius if they are good enough. (With some exceptions). Jungler camps are also rampant against Darius' which make getting off the ground difficult as Darius in some circumstances.

Final words:

  • Darius has a linear style thus very predictable. (He's still my favorite tho :3)

Uh, I donno about you, but I stomp all over Irelia with Darius. A good one can be annoying, but you still win the lane and destroy her once you hit 6.

Winning with Darius in lane comes down to two different variables: #1 Does the laner respect Darius? - #2 Does the jungler respect Darius?

Once you find out these things you can figure how you play the lane. If #1 then freezing under tower and zoning are the best way to deal with the passiveness. Occasionally when they get greedy enough for the cs you can 100-0 them pretty easy. #2 is a bit more tricky. You can still kill your laner and zone but wards/when you choose you to fight are more significant. It's also common for Darius' who have a large lane lead to shove out and bait a 2 v 1. If both #1 and #2 then you're screwed. This is really hard to deal with and the best you can do is freeze and zone.

Final words:

Just for me personally, but if you are not 30+ cs ahead or at least killed them once or twice you're not doing your job as Darius.
