should you help someone if they are building wrong?

this is a question to you all. should u stay quiet and not give a fk? or should u give them reasons as to why its bad?

my jungler kha zix built a wriggles lantern and was 1-9-1 20 minutes into the game. i told him that feral flare is for auto attack heavy champions and kha zix benefits more from the lizard and that kha zix doesnt have time to auto that much in a team fight. i tried to be as nice as possible, and gave out point form reasons as to why its not good for kha zix the NICEST way possible.

he replied with 5 words. "it works ill auto attack." then i had the choice to stay quiet and lose or reply and try to get him to understand. he just kept denying everything and saying "nope".

so what do u do in these situations? stay quiet or help someone understand their build.

At that point he won't listen anyways. I've had the same thing with real life friends. One rushed tier 2 boots and zeal as jinx, and I tried telling him to build damage first. His reasoning was "I'm going for quantity of attacks over quality."

If a player doesn't want to take advice, you cannot force it upon them - in fact, trying to do so will just make them angry and more likely to play poorly. Best thing to do is calmly explain your reasoning behind the suggestion, and if they fail to take it, ignore them and play the best you can. Sooner or later, the guy will lose enough games with that build and realize that he should change things - or will hear enough times "don't build FF on Kha'Zix". Until then though, there's nothing else you can do. Learned this the hard way with a friend of mine.

If somebody is making a major misunderstanding of a champion's kit (which is different from a flavor choice) then I usually try to offer my advice. If said player seems interested then I'll explain. If they want to argue their clearly wrong idea then I drop it. That person building full AP Ryze with no mana items that wants to fight you over it is not somebody you can probably help.

Well, I've got two opinions for this situation.

  1. If it is a normal match just let it go, maybe he is trying something new. Ask if they want advice, but if they say no then leave it at that.
  2. If it is ranked try to make him understand, but at the first sign of him getting angry stop talking immediately.

Some people just don't like advice that doesn't agree with what they think, and some just don't like being told they are wrong about something.

so the best possible thing to do is talk once and reason why its a bad build. then if he doesnt agree with me or denies it with his own "bad" reasons. i should stop talking and just ignore it? or should i reason back?

If he went 1/9/1 20 minutes into the game, I would say there's some other issue than his build :<

The real question is why the hell does no one listen to advice in soloqueue at all? Your team generally aren't trying to lose.
