They do ban waves all the time.

probably just recently, since all the complaints have been coming in very rapidly, its probably Riot's scanning system, picking up an irregularity and flagging accounts that shouldn't be banned, Riot fucked up, noone else besides though rare accounts that actually use illegal 3rd party programs.
