Is skipping a rank possible?

Was placed G3 after the reset, climb to G3-G2 promos and entered G1 after winning. Can you just skip a rank or is this a bug?

yes with high MMR

If you win enough and by extension increase your MMR higher than normal, the system will try to place you higher based what it thinks is your actual skill level.

I did this last season, got S5 with placements. Then jumped from there to S3 and again to S1 with winstreaks.
