How I think buffing/nerfing a champ should go
Take a champ that we think is too strong. They are probably too strong because they counter current picks or whatever. I think instead of just straight up nerfing the champ to the ground, they should actually think about what they should do. It would make sense to nerf the champ in regards to the champs they counter, but also a small buff to the champs that they don't. I think this because say a champ is strong against certain champs and weak against others (surprise...every single champ here. Even the ones that you guys are crying OP about...zed, fizz, kat, etc.), nerfing that champ hurts a lot. Now, they aren't as strong against the champs that they countered, but they are also hella weak against the champs that already countered them.
This creates the endless cycle of nerfs that we have now. Let's look at Sona (most recent example). They said that she was too oppressive in lane (not sure where they got that considering the other supports, but whatever..we will give rito the benefit of the doubt that Lee kicked Sona in front of the nerf bat and rito didn't actually mean it). So, they just took her damage down from 50% to 40% and dropped her MS. What does this do? Makes Sona not as strong vs the champs that she can bully, and makes her even weaker against the champs that she couldn't.
rito said they did this because they wanted to give champs that she was strong against a chance....well what about the champs that were strong against her rito? You make them even stronger now. What I propose, is that since you nerf her against the champs she is strong against, you make some kind of buff so she can face the champs she is weaker against. Boom, now Sona as a champ is much much much much much more balanced (doesn't shit on people or get shit on by others). But, you chose not to do this. Instead, you just hit whatever champ is FoTM at the time with the nerf bat with no compensation, they go into Urgot tier, another champ rises up, you hit them with the nerf bat into Urgot hole, you realize that the first champ was hit to hard, so you buff the same thing that you nerfed and surprise, they are back into "wahhh champ X OP" category, and so on and so on.
By going with what I think you should do, you create less of a game where lanes are decided at champ select. There isn't the "OOOOOH I shit on that champ with my champ and since they were FoTM, they got nerfed. Now I'm going to shit even harder on them!!" situation that there is going to be with my Fiddles when Kat, Akali, Fizz, and Zed all get nerfed :D.
Just my two cents worth, and Sona probably put me in this whole wall of text mood....and I don't even play her but once a month lol. And FFS, give her back her damn boobies.
Tl;dr: rito should actually balance champs instead of just nerfing/buffing.
