Except you most likely haven't seen most of the chat logs.
In just my last game I got reported for "verbal abuse" because a terrible bot lane lost tower in 5 minutes. I, as the jungler, decided I wasn't strong enough to contest dragon against a Nunu, so I went onto the 200 HP support, got a kill and backed.
Leona then decides to say "Diana, you really shouldn't have done that. You should have contested the dragon, and done x y z. But I guess you don't want to improve."
My literal response before I muted her for the rest of the game:
"You really shouldn't be giving advice to people when you can't even win lane, just please shut the hell up."
Much verbal abuse, such wow.
People are just abusing the fact that the report system is much more aggressive now and throwing reports left and right. Riot won't do anything about it, we are going to see bans all over the place over petty crap (like my example) and people are still going to kiss Riot's butt for "removing toxic players," when in reality they aren't.
I've had the "Reported for Verbal Abuse" probably 3-4 times in the last 2 DAYS. I don't even use the chat that much, and when I do, yeah sure I might come off aggressive to someone that decides to type something while they are feeding. But welcome to life.
If you worked a full time job, showed up late everyday, did you job wrong/sloppily, then had the audacity to open your mouth to a co-worker for making a mistake, I can guarantee you will get your ass chewed out or even worse. Just how people are, and you most certainly aren't going to "reform" humanity with 14 day bans/
