Participate in an online research study about teamwork for MIT and Riot Games

We would like to invite you to a study conducted by researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in collaboration with Riot Games. We’re interested in exploring the ability of a team to perform a wide range of collaborative tasks, and will measure this using an online battery of tasks your team will work on together.

To qualify for this study, you have to be part of a Ranked 5s Team that has played at least 20 games together this season on the NA Server. Once you complete the following tasks below, we will grant you a reward on your main accounts:

  • An online screening survey individually (takes approx. 20 minutes); AND
  • An online battery of tests with ALL members of your team simultaneously (takes approx. 1 hour).

At the end of the study, we’ll also send you a scorecard of your team’s ability in skills like decision-making, execution, sensing and memory.

Participation in the study is completely voluntary and all information used in the study will only be linked to your summoner name. Privacy is one of our highest priorities and all data gathered during the experiment will be stored securely. We will only publish data in summary form, so it will not be possible to link the data to an individual person. The study has been accepted by the Institutional Review Board at MIT.

By 'this season', do you mean previously in Season 4, or upcoming in Season 5?

TFW the last time I tried to do ranked 5s one of the team members spent the first 10 minutes being snippy at everybody and then flipped out and started cussing everybody out and then AFK'd and then everybody else removed me from their friend list after the game and I haven't tried to join one since.

Trying to prove LoL is good brain exercise? (nothing beats Portal 2).

I dislike MIT for pushing the creator of Reddit to commit suicide.

Me and about 5 friends have played over 1000 games together, but I don't think we have a team were it says that. We have created so many different ranked teams but I don't think we have 1 team over 20 games. Is there any way we could get into this?

Unfortunately, I'm not in a ranked 5s team. Or ranked. Or level 30.

Pity, I think it would be more interesting to create a study that analyzes the behavior and temperment of individuals who play League of legends. It would be interesting to gain an idea of the mentality of people.

I received an email informing me that my team was not qualified to participate in the study. I assume there is some sort of mmr range you guys are specifically looking at? Where is the line?

Aw man, I would kill to get in on this...

My friends and I have been queuing as 5 in normals for years now (like srsly - http://imgur.com/UQOixGm script doesn't account for name changes, but combined most of them are actually 600+), and we've always treated it seriously like ranked, but never actually DID ranked... My inner stats junkie weeps. Wish I could get one of those report cards Q_Q

I've played over 40 games with a group of the same friends, but a lot of them are still level 20ish and we are waiting to make a team until then, Any chance we could still participate?

Due to the way the post was constructed, for a few minutes I thought the reward was an hour long battery of tests and was like, "Who would subject themselves to this?..."

But after those few minutes my interest is up and I may try to find some people to team with.

I have a team (actually about 9 people, so possibly a couple teams) that may like to participate. We do have a ranked team, however don't really play ranked teams much. We DO have well over 20 (possibly 100+) normal games logged together. Are we still eligible?

Is it okay if we have played way over 20 ranked 5 games together total, but we have done it over multiple teams this season because we have restarted our team a couple times with a new team name?
