Stop Harassing People for not taking Flash

Im sick and tired of it. I tend to get harassed every game I don't take flash because its a personal preference of mine. I don't care what other people think flash is, I just don't prefer using it, so stop flaming people for what they prefer to use.

I dont agree with the harassing, but realistically there is 0 reason not to take flash, it is objectively the best summoner in the game. You arn't going to get far without it. I respect that you dont like using it, but really you are just gimping yourself. If i was jungling against your team, i'd be camping you non stop for not having flash or atleast ghost. You need a defensive movement summoner spell.

To all of you who disagree, here is my personal reason why I decide not to take flash:

Pros: Can blink over walls/veigar stun Allows you to get closer to opponents or allies Is significant in tricking opponents where you went Allows you to secure kills

Cons: Has a 300 second cooldown (240 with Distortion (Which no one ever really takes)) Chance of not jumping far enough Mobile champs catch up easily anyways Common mistake of flashing a inch before dying trying to activate other spells.

To me, although the Pros usually outweigh the cons, I just don't prefer flash mostly due to the 5 minute cooldown on it. I believe that taking something like Exhaust, heal, barrier, or ignite is much more useful due to the lower cooldown and being able to take in and dish out more damage.

Everyone takes it for a reason. Did you just vow not to take it, is it like "You told me to take flash so I'm not gonna do it"? It's SO easy to take advantage of someone that doesn't have flash, literally one of the jungler's jobs is to burn the laner's flash so they can kill them later. Nobody deserves harassment, but I can see why it would be frustrating.

"But flash is objectively better"

Add more argument to it... flash move you by 1 extra second of movement ever 300 seconds. Objectively, that's 0.3% increase in speed.

By comparison, clarity makes you AND your teammate recover for 66% of their mana in the same amount of time. This mean that anyone who can make more then 0.25% of their damage from mana skills would benefit more from clarity then from flash. It seem reasonnable to me to assume that ziggs would deal more then 1% of damage from his skills.

The only thing with flash is that it's flashy. If people using clarity were as much excited to make a kill with less then 66% of their mana left as someone who use a flash to escape death. They would rage at you for taking that little jumpy flash instead of the awesome long jump teleport.

And that assuming that people use their flash to escape death somewhat reliably. More often then not, I see people using their flash where a single potion could fix the damage they would have received anyway...

I'm tired of getting harassed for just about everything that isn't 100% exactly what the "pros" would do.

God forbid I don't take flash on every champion or Pick a champion someone isn't used to seeing every single game ever or Take a champion that someone might think doesn't "belong" in a role or lane

  • got flamed to death last week for going Cait mid (and wrecking). "Adcs don't go mid" as I replied "except for Ezreal, and Varus, and Urgot" People can play Gangplank mid, Yi mid, Riven mid, but how dare I play Cait mid, and win.

Hell before everyone and their mom was taking smite top and mid, I would get flamed to no end for daring to take smite anywhere but jungle. Now that the pros are doing it I get flamed for being a "sheep".

There is no winning.

I never take flash when I play support. Reason? I started playing in season 2, when it was common for the support to take heal. Top laners and mids often took heal as well to bait out towerdives. It's a habit that I'm very comfortable with, and I do well enough. I take Exhaust/Heal when I support, because everything I do is about helping my team. I AM COMFORTABLE PLAYING LIKE THIS.

It's fine that people don't agree with me, but I'm really tired of being harassed for it before the game even loads.

I'm sorry but if your Leona top with summoner 1 and summoner 12 I'm going to pick fun.

I won't flame, but I will make jokes. With the best intentions of course ;)

The fact of the matter is, there is barely even a handful of champions in the game that are viable without flash. Examples being, Shaco, Hecarim, Renekton, and Shyvana. I can't really think of any other champions, so if you think of one, let me know.

Because flash is necessary for almost every champion to be viable as it is by far the most overpowered summoner spell with a near infinite amount of possible utility, you really need it if you want to perform well.

Take a look at your match history - you literally never pick flash. Mordekaiser 4-12 without flash. And I thought Morde was easy to gank to begin with. TF with no Flash OR Ghost. No mobility on an immobile, easy to counter mage. Karthus with no flash. The list goes on.

I would love having you on the enemy team because it would basically be a free win for me. Anytime my flash is up (or even just any time in general) when you're out of position there's no way for you to escape, so I would just make a play on you and kill you, and you'd feed (like you do often ranging from 1-7 to 4-12 ish scores).

I mean, you can either try to be all special and different playing "your own way" and complain when people point out your mistakes... OR you can try to understand the game at a higher level and make smarter strategic choices. Your decision. If being stuck in Gold 5 and feeding there appeals to you, go right ahead, but don't make it other people's problem.

People in this thread are proving the OPs point 100%

"You shouldn't harass but..." then everyone going on explaining why you should be taking it and criticizing.

Every response is pretty much a copy of the previous response lol

It is a game, let people enjoy it. If he dies then he dies. Let him play like he wants.

Exact stuff I was talking about above. Everyone hates when you do anything that isn't exactly how they think everything should go.

Don't dare take a different summoner spell Don't dare play an "off meta" champion Don't dare pick x item instead of y

The list goes on and on. Everyone says they don't want to harass, but, then go on telling you why you shouldn't and criticizing on and on repeating the same things.

I'd say let me pick the champions, spells, and items I want, but half the people in this game (and probably this thread) would just report me for trolling somehow, because if I'm not striving to be in the LCS in every solo queue, then I'm trolling.

"Don't I have the right to do what I want with no regard for anybody else's opinion ever?"

No, you're playing a team game. Stop being an asshat and learn how to cooperate with others.

MercuryCannons7/7/2015, 4:59:22 PM3 votes

I mean there are only like 5 cases where you shouldn't take flash.

If you're one of those guys that's trying to play ADC without flash then you're pretty much putting you team at an extreme disadvantage for no reason.

If you don't tank flash on a solo laner, I am going to camp the shit out of you every single game, especially if you do it on a champion that also has no escape, which it appears you often do.

Sarutobi7/7/2015, 4:42:52 PM2 votes

Unless you have some sort of escape I would think it's required to have flash. It will save your life in the game.

Nameless Voice7/8/2015, 1:25:12 PM2 votes

You shouldn't just blindly take Flash because everyone takes Flash, but instead you should take it when it is going to give you more advantage than another summoner spell in its place.

By not having Flash, you lose a free gap-closer / escape, which can help chase enemies or escape from ganks. How useful is that to you? If another summoner spell is more useful, then take that instead.

In direct combat, other summoner spells (Exhaust, Ignite, Barrier, Heal) are generally more powerful than Flash, so by taking Flash you are giving up duelling power for the ability to escape ganks or to make flashy plays. Again, the choice should depend on what you want to do in the game.

Just remember that if you don't take Flash or Ghost as a solo laner, the enemy jungler is going to see that and try to camp you. You need to be prepared for that, and should really only do it if you know you can survive that extra jungler attention.

Some examples of who can easily get away without taking Flash:

  • Extremely tanky champions can often be better served with Ghost (it covers more distance overall, but leaves them in attack range for longer - a tank usually won't die instantly, so the extra distance helps them.)
  • Mobile champions can afford to take another spell in some cases, depending on the circumstances - but just because they can doesn't mean that Flash isn't often still the better choice. For example, a Katarina can get away with Teleport/Ignite quite easily, but Flash is far more useful for her to get kills (and she needs kills to snowball) since it allows her a long-ranged Flash-Shunpo engage.
  • Junglers can pretty much take whatever they want, since they are the ones who are least likely to need to Flash away from a gank. Again, pick whatever is the most effective.
SmokedAlmonds7/7/2015, 4:59:03 PM1 votes

I mean, people shouldn't flame you for it. But flash is objectively better than everything else like 99% of the time, with smite being the only significant exception but you would really just take smite and flash. So really its not just personal preference, its making a poor decision.

Tryhard Mittens7/13/2015, 4:25:31 PM1 votes

Why do people keep telling me I need to use my blinker when I change lanes? Just because I'm statistically more likely to get in a crash doesn't mean I have to do it. It is a personal preference of mine to change lanes at will and hope nobody is near me.

When I do get in a car crash, which I do frequently, it is never my fault. People should be able to read my mind. It isn't like the blood of all those people who have died are on my hands. My decisions only affect me.
