How do masteries work?

I have gotten lvl 2 mastery with Ashe but idk how to unlock a chest. I got A in a game but that's it. Is there a certain lvl I have to reach to get a chest? Thanks.

You have to earn an S rank to get a chest. You can only get 1 chest per champion every season.
