Seriously, I can't tell you how many times I have encountered this type of situation, where it would always be 20-30 minutes into the game, and then one of my teammates(mostly the carries) would say "sorry guys i gtg. Got class", and then just leaves as if it was nothing. And before you know it, they think that the reports & the suspension/bans were unnecessary because "it's not my fault that I have things to do today!"

Tell you what? You deserve to be reported & getting suspensions/bans when you do not take your schedule timing seriously.

Yeah, hey, guys. Unexpected stuff happens. We get that. Maybe there's a fire in your building. Maybe your kid fell backwards down a flight of stairs and you need to rush him to the hospital. Maybe your boss called unexpectedly, telling you need to be at work right now. These things are rare, but they happen. If they do, and you need to go, we understand.

But that's not what this thread is about.

This thread is about those people who know full well they have less than an hour to finish a match, and yet they queue anyway. That's selfish and unfair to your team. Don't do that.

Downvoted because the chances of someone being called into work at a completely unexpected time is next to zero, outside of a few professions. You usually know ahead of time that you're 'on call' and risking being called in at any moment.

Those people still deserve bans. Single player games exist for a reason.

By your logic parents of small children can't play this game either. I'm on call sometimes but I'm on call all day so what am I supposed to do wait until they never call and then be like oh damn I could've played some league but I didn't because there was a remote possibility of being called in?

Exactly. Parents of small children that they're watching shouldn't be playing a game that exists solely in blocks of thirty to fourty minutes. Have you ever taken care of those buggers? It's a full time thing, you are bound to be interrupted. It's bad enough that you can't get through an entire TV show let alone a game. And if you're on call 'sometimes', then wait until you're not. You don't have to play LoL every day to survive.

See, you seem to act like I'm unreasonably suggesting that adults should get rid of all these other important things for LoL. No. Adults, as adults, should be responsible enough and have enough self-control to only play when they're genuinely able. You're looking for excuses to be selfish. Like I've even had one of my friends that was new to league just like "Welp dinner's ready, be back in about 5-10 minutes" in the middle of the game. Told him grab his food then sit the fuck back down and finish the game, or eat it after.

It took me about a week to get through to him the importance of finishing the games he started lmao

I have to agree, my younger brother will start a LoL match and I'll just look at him and ask when he has to leave for a meeting. "30 minutes." 'You're gonna queue, ban, select, load, and win- in 30 minutes?' "Yeah, what's wrong with that?" 'Oh nothing, have fun.' I know full and well he's not going to accomplish that, but I'll let him be reported, not my problem.

The only time I've ever had anything like that happen to me was a fire alarm that went off in the apartment of the girl I was visiting, that came out of the left field, typed in all-chat, "So there's a fire alarm going off, I'm leaving." and disconnected before exiting the building. Turns out it was a drill.

It's not about having infinite time. It's about having ENOUGH time.

Plan to have ENOUGH time for a game (~1 hour is a safe amount for Summoner's Rift. Probably more like ~30 minutes for ARAM or ~45 for Twisted Treeline/Dominion.)

Tell you what? Part of having a life/being responsible is properly managing your time like an adult. Got something important coming up in 40 minutes, don't queue up for Summoner's Rift. Period.

I agree with your point in general but,

You dont' need 45 minutes for dominion. That mode is much less variable in time than summoners rift, games almost never last 30 minutes and never go 45 mins.

Depends on how good the teams are. I've seen a 50 minute Dominion. Both teams treated it like call of duty while only me and 1 person on the other team actually bothered with towers.

The glorified 1v1 was fun and all.... but please. If you don't know how to play; just ask!

I am perfectly aware of the fact that real life is VASTLY more important than the game. That is precisely why one should make sure that their real life obligations are taken care of BEFORE queuing up. Please refrain from making more baseless assumptions about me, as it contributes nothing useful to the discussion.

Disclaimer: From here down, any use of the word "you" is referring to people in general. NOT Fredart specifically.

Literally all I said is that before starting a game that can take up to an hour to complete, make sure you have enough time in your schedule to allow you to finish it. In the adult world, you need to finish what you start. In the adult world, it is not acceptable to leave 9 other people hanging because you failed to manage your time properly before committing to a task.

If something unexpected happens that requires you to leave a game, then fine. Emergencies and other such inconveniences happen, and I would never begrudge someone for that.

But if you tell me 15 minutes into a match that you have to go to work/school in less than 10 minutes, then you obviously should not have queued up in the first place. At that point, you are literally just wasting 9 other peoples' time because of your own irresponsibility with your schedule.

Lol, but learning how to manage having time for a hobby is part of that. RL>video games, so just don't play video games when you're super busy, not a difficult concept. If I've got shit in 15 minutes I play hearth stone or just chill doing something other than video games. I mean, when I go play basketball I don't plan to meet my friends for lunch 30 minutes after the start of the game if it's a league w/ 20 minute halves. It's called being able to add, and yes that is a big part of being an adult. Adults should be able to read a clock and add so they know when they will be free to do stuff, and whether or not they have time to do something before what they have planned starts.

I always try to make the time to finish games.. but sometimes shit just pops up. Real life > game. Why should I get banned because something unexpected came up? I don't really think everyone who actually has a valid excuse to leave deserves a ban/suspension, only the people who leave and don't have shit to do deserves the bans. Like the people who say g2g eat, and "mom wants me off the computer bye" or just straight up leaves because hes losing. Shit like that.

Since you said Real Life > Game, then I don't see why a simple ban would even affect you in the first place, and plus, people who leave for either good or bad purpose still offers the same negativity in-game: giving his other 4 teammates a bad experience. So technically, I still see both types of parties as mentioned to still receive the same punishment treatment.

If you leave 1 in 50 but do so in a way that doesn't look like a pattern of afking or ragequitting, you will never be punished for it. If you take a 5 minute break from 1 in 10 games (say you have a horrible ISP) you will not be punished for it.

If you AFK 1 in 5 games because your baby is on fire, you will be banned and you deserve it. (And should probably fireproof your baby somehow.)

Reason is frankly irrelevant, because someone with a good reason isn't going to be leaving regularly enough for it to be a problem.

What you are saying is false. Every person has something called "Leaver Points" which add up over time. After you accumulate a certain amount you will be punished. The time between AFK'd matches means nothing, the total amount of times you have went AFK does. This was a stat which you used to be able to monitor on http://op.gg/ which unfortunately was removed around the same time they removed duo queue information. If you AFK 1 in every 100 games after roughly 1000 games you WILL be punished by the system whether you deserved it or not.

I agree with the topic post however I feel his attitude is about as toxic as the rest of the community on this matter. Life happens, yea I understand you lost because someone left but you can't control that anymore than they can most of the time. It's a game, not a job. How about instead of blaming the player you ask Riot why they don't have a better system in place to help teams who have AFK(s)?

Believe it or not, other games HAVE SOLUTIONS to AFK problems and they work very well. If you player Heroes of the Storm most of the time you barely even notice when someone went AFK because an automated bot takes over and keeps playing right where they left off standing. The problem with League and AFK's is the publisher. Stop venting on the players. Yes I understand everyone is a terrible toxic troll, they leave, they do dumb shit.. that's life and you deal with it. Stop blaming things you can't change and look where the true problem lies.
