The Society of the League Boards

Hello people. I am a random person and this will be my first post. I anonymously read most of the posts of the boards and I find it very interesting. I would like some help from anyone willing to help. I am writing an essay about the "social structure" of the boards for my comp class. I would greatly appreciate it if somebody can answer:

  1. In your opinion what is the dynamic of the interaction of the players with Riot? Did they used to be more open, and why are they less responsive to players on the boards now? (I am relatively new here started season 5)

  2. What is your "role" on the boards and how do you fit into the dynamic?

  3. What are some interactions with other members that is unique to league boards/forums?

Any answer would be greatly appreciated. It would be even cooler if you can use an anecdote :)

My observation is that with big, failed, community driven events like the Juggernaut rework, Riot seems to be much more reserved about how they deal with player criticism. To use an analogy, they'll still listen to us that we want pepperoni on their pizza, but they will not allow us to tell them how much pepperoni we want.

What is your "role" on the boards and how do you fit into the dynamic?

I like to point out the blisteringly obvious facts and observations that occur when you understand mathematics or basic logic. Otherwise I like to educate where I can.

What are some interactions with other members that is unique to league boards/forums?

These boards have a lot of weird classist people. Like, not even elitist which I'd say is common in other forums, I mean straight up classists based on your rank.

Yo!

  1. Riot used to communicate a bit more... for, like, the first years, when the player population was not even a tenth of what there it is now and they could not handle all that, it stopped for a while and then got a whole lot better. Rioters in general communicate A LOT, back and forth, and many people forget that. You can see it everyday while looking at the red tracker, just to give an example, or by the posts that are made in the Red Corner. Plus other media which is not boards related like PBE boards, twitter, ask.fm et cetera.

  2. My role as individual or role as a generic player? Personally i like to slap reality in the face of the jaded people who complains about the decisions made by Riot without looking at the good side or being egoistical, not much because Riot is infallible but because i got booooored of people only whining xD In general as a player it should be discussion on stuff. It should, because in reality there is a lot of echo chamber for single heated opinions and upvotes are everything to many people here. Otherwise there are "V.I.P.s" who like to show around because they are remembered by the community for different reasons, usually involving Memes.

  3. I' m not aware of any. The only thing probably is being able to look at the match history of a player, but that is a thing that gets used seldom and can be watched from other sources ( but is still a nice thing to have at hand). Otherwise you can ask people to be friends on the client since you see their IGN, but that never occured to me since i am EUW and this is a NA board :D
