Don't worry, soon people will realize it's a disengage and not a kill ulti.
People have to learn to use the cast immediately so it just knocks you up.
Then you just walk around the enemy till you can E 'em into a wall.
I have to admit, I use my ult more for the comedic effect of watching them flail wildly through the air, even when it is strategically stupid to do so.

It's pretty sad that poppy is the only champ I ever felt reluctant to use my ult with. She's perhaps one of the only champs I've had massive uptime of her ult simply because of how situational it is.
Generally I use the ult as a hail mary because I know I won't be able to catch up to them.
Don't get too comfy. I know how to just knock-up someone, not send them flying away. Whomper says hi.
