What makes or break an elite ADC

What do you think is the difference between an elite ADC vs. above average vs. average?

I used to wreck playing what used to be my main role (adc) but lately I'm the on who's getting stomped whenever I play adc. I've noticed that enemy players would easily dive onto me and insta-kill me be it from Rengar, Irelia, J4, Vi, etc regardless of my positioning. During my awesome era of playing adc I never encountered any real challenge. So my question is how do elite ADC's deal with this problem?

Also take into account that whenever I play adc it feels like the majority of times I have to single-handedly hard carry my team which is impossible due to aforementioned problems.

I have played with all kinds of supports and recently I've been getting paired with the ones who have no clue how to zone, peel, control creep wave farming under tower, not buying sightstone, etc.

Sorry it's all jumbled up but how do I as an adc make an impact on a game if I get instantly bursted down regardless of positioning?

You use flash more liberally, group instead of overextending bot, and don't wander without your team. Play safe and you shouldn't get caught out more than 2-3 times a game.

positioning and lane dominance. Forgiven carrys games because he plays champions he can shit on lane with and his positioning is perfect so he can get the most damage off and kill everyone.

You act predictively and proactively, as opposed to reactionary. You make the move before the enemy does, and you dictate where the fight goes. This video sums it up pretty nicely: Learn to teamfight #4 : Vayne & Reactions (it applies to more then just Vayne)
