I'm worried about the future.
What if 500 years from now, America states that the founding fathers weren't real? And believe me, that is bound to happen. The rate at which we forget things that has happened even when we have written proof is outstanding. What if the internet gets regarded as that old archive where drunken people just go and post stuff? What if the information posted online gets altered and keeps changing until there is no memory of the events that happened?
And no don't say that information can't be changed easily. With the way people can Photoshop, lie/ deny proofs, or even the cycle of life (people die in their graves and carry with them their information, people then dig up those grave sites in a few thousand years and try and summarize their life work by the things they were with (Anthropologists anyone) ). This is my major worry. In our quest to further improve, we ignore so much or so much vanishes. Information gets "updated".
But what can we do? The world is changing. The world won't stay the same. Ideas and ideals will be tossed out whether good or bad.
Today's ideal is religion and gay marriage. And no i'm not holding on to the past. I just find it remarkable how we're in the 21st century and all we can remember about what has happened over thousand of years is about how religion is the root of our problems and we would have been better if we didn't have it. We need to get off our high horse. If we have nothing better to do than to blame the past on the problems, what will our children of tomorrow say? That every problem can be atoned by blaming our father? That if we try our best and don't succeed, blame your elders? That the love our fathers have shown us can be clouded by the hatred they showed because it was them fighting for their beliefs?
We ourselves will pass on values that will pose problems as well as solutions for the future. What is classified as "right" in today's standards will be considered unfathomable in the near future (take gasoline cars). So why are we summarizing everything in the past as negative? Why?
