A Board For Lore

Previously we had a Lore ghetto, where everyone who cared about this game's characters and stories could go and be ignored together. Sorry for such a prickly opening but now we're stuck in this melting pot of Miscellaneous, clogging it with lore posts. If it really is easier for Rioters to provide direct feedback about what players care about via boards, can we get one of our own? It would also be nice to see that you guys do care about us, I know you do, if we get a home as equals alongside Gameplay and Esports. <3

I totally agree, there should be a Lore section.

Not sure there's much to say (without getting really negative, anyway) except "RITOPLS".

The problem with Lore (while I do enjoy the Lore Riot puts out), is that many fans of it keep asking for interconnected events, for the web to be drawn tight.

Drawing the web of lore tight is problematic however, as making suspected or implied connections concrete can seal off options for storytelling, champion-design, and other areas where they NEED creative freedom. Please remember that we're dealing with the internet here: one of the most canon-focused, continuity-worshiping cultures ever to exist. Ever go on to Wikipedia and find a page for a perfectly legitimate real-world topic for which there's plenty of information is a vaguely-written stub, then you click on over to some Superman story-arc from the 90s that no one remembers has minute details documented?

No, it's not because it's not All-Star Superman. Though that is a good reason why no one remembers it.

Anyway, point is messing with the continuity pisses off people here on the internet moreso than it does regular folks. Seriously, we dislike it a lot when people treat the continuity we enjoy with flippancy. And it seems like every time Lore fans get together, the only thing a majority of us ever seems to want is for Riot to close the holes and make the continuity more dense. I understand that we simply want answers to our questions and to questions that they themselves have posed that interest us, but for the good of the game, at least some of that stuff has to remain unanswered. Some people can't abide by that, and I know for me personally it gets tiring to see people screaming for lore changes or more lore when they don't realize that perhaps there's a very good reason why things are the way they are. Having an area for lore discussions wouldn't solve this, I think. In fact I suspect that in time it would simply be viewed as a place Riot "never looks at" and whatnot. I'm sure there's similar complaints to the current Lore/Story area.

Now, to be completely fair to the people screaming for more continuity and such, Magic: the Gathering has a lot of continuity it manages to juggle very well, including wrapping up most if not all of the loose ends by the time a Block is complete story-wise. Anything that's NOT wrapped up, you typically don't see people complaining about, rather anticipating.

Where's Liliana Vess? Last we saw her she Planeswalked to Akroma's Memorial. Wait...she's a Necromancer...ooooooh shiii-

Elspeth defeated Xenagos and saved her home Plane of Theros! Yaaay!....but she died! Boooo!....but...wait....when mortals on Theros die they go to the Underworld and still have a chance to get out! Yaaaaay!

Aw man, the Eldrazi are wrecking Zendikar! Wait, where's Gideon Jura going?! He said he was gonna get help! WTF WIZARDS?! (fast-forward to Return to Ravnica block and Gideon negotiating with the Boros Legion and watch the minds explode.)

Questions are posed, and then answered. Despite having a LOT of story to work around, Wizards gets it done. One could say it's because their functional setting is bigger (a multiverse is a damn sight bigger than Runeterra), but still. They deal with a lot of players, a lot of interconnecting elements, and they get the job done. Riot COULD do the same, but if they don't or they're unsure as to how, I understand.
