mastery 6&7...pay to unlock?

"To unlock Level 6 using Hextech Crafting, combine 2 Mastery tokens plus one of the following: 500 blue essence, OR a champ shard of the same champ, OR the champ permanent of the same champ."

"To unlock Level 7 using Hextech Crafting, combine 3 Mastery tokens plus one of the following: 600 blue essence, OR a champ shard of the same champ, OR the champ permanent of the same champ. "

where i have an issue is this "500 blue essence, OR a champ shard of the same champ, OR the champ permanent of the same champ."

they say this is for

"We structured the performance requirement and cost in this way in order to ensure this builds on the former system, rewarding a combination of skill and participation. As you rank up, you’ll unlock new mastery badge emotes, new loading screen border flags, and the announcement banner upgrade to indicate your higher skill. "

but what i read that as is this... once you get your tokens your gonna want to get you new mastery so instead of waiting forever for drops your just gonna buy a chest or essence....because you know money > everything

but but but what about

"To make it easier to unlock the level once you’ve earned your Mastery tokens, we’re adding a mystery coin that yields a random champ shards that’ll be available for your choice of IP or RP"

let me guess an obnoxiously high ip cost like rune pages where its only practical to buy them with rp

(which creates a pay to win environment having multiple tailored rune pages helps considerably)

ty Riot...

Typical boards trolls.

Troll: "We want X, Y, Z thing! why you no give Rito?" Riot: "Okay here you go, we implemented this system so that it feels good to earn it and may make some revenue for us so we can fund other projects and get stuff for you. There's also a way to get it for free so you don't have to pay. Hope you guys like it!" Troll: "OMG WTF RITO I HAVE TO PAY TO GET IT!!! WTF!!! I HATE YOU!!! I DON'T WANT IT NOW GAH!!"

Reminds me of my tween sisters and how they view the world because they so badly want to act like a stuck up teenager 3 years early...

You did not read the full post. It states that when you are level 5 Mastery, you need to get a S- to get Level 6 Mastery, and to get Mastery 7, you Need to get an S rating. Please read the full thing before spitting out nonsence, Yeah, you can get it though hextech, but its easier to get in game.

So does that mean they got rid of level 5 mastery badgers then? I heard people say you can no longer use ctrl + 6 in game. Thought maybe it was a bug but they probably removed to force players to pursue rank 6 & 7.

Do you have a better suggestion for Champion Essence to be used on? Seriously, I think this is pretty great, since it means that I can continue working towards getting things even after I get all the champions.

Champion mastery is something that doesn't change gameplay at all. Like all other vanity/cosmetic content, you're able to pay to acquire it faster than not paying for it. This also addresses the problem that many people have with the blue side of hextech crafting being useless to long-time players. If you want something and there's no benefit to having it aside from your own satisfaction, then that doesn't mean that it's pay to win and it doesn't mean that Riot giving you the option to spend money on it is bad.

This also puts a true skill gating on content for what might be the first time in this game's history since you can't actually buy the mastery tokens. Pretty much everything in this game is locked behind grinding aside from Hextech Chests and stuff that's entirely unavailable. Chests can become a grinding thing though if you have friends that can get S ranks. You need to be the one to get an S to get a token, people in your premade getting S ranks doesn't help you get those. So in order to get the higher levels you need to genuinely have performed well with a champion a couple of times as well as gotten blue jazz from Hextech Chests. I'm largely ok with this as it's something where no matter how much money you throw at the game or how much time you put into it, you can't buy or grind out mastery tokens. Working in the Hextech Crafting aspect to mastery is 1) something they said they wanted to do since before Hextech Crafting was implemented, and 2) something that can be done with the "useless" half of the system that could conceivably make people as hyped as getting a good skin on the other half of the system.

This is hilarious. And makes no sense at all.

All right, Riot.

Frankly, the thought of using hextech crafting to raise mastery level of a champion felt odd to me from the very start. I understand they need a release valve to deal with people who have all the IP they could ever want, but it's a pretty unfulfilling thing to me to simply take away their top-tier mastery indicator and lock that behind a random reward barrier.

Adding mastery tokens to the mix feels a bit like additionally spitting in the eyes of those people who truly have put in ridiculous amounts of time on some champions, not an avenue to reward them.
