Am I the only one that plays with camera lock on?

This is a really unimportant question, but for some reason I'm curious

Does anyone else besides me and a few other people I've asked play with camera lock on? I know it's supposed to reduce awareness and all, but I just can't keep track of my champion and also manually move the camera around and still do good. I always lose my champion and forget you can press space to go back to them, and also I end up fucking up when I'm in a fight and have to keep moving the camera around, because it doesn't always even go exactly where I want it to go

I hear it's a pretty common thing, but I literally haven't seen one person on YouTube or in the LCS play with camera lock on. Is that just because it's a preference or because people think it's better to play without camera lock?

There's also very few champions that I HAVE to sometimes unlock the camera for, like when I'm playing Zac and need to use his E, because the range is too far to have the camera locked, or like Pantheon's ult

I play with my camera locked unless I need to look beyond my screen. I'll click on the map and the camera pans away, or I'll unlock it while aiming a really long skillshot, etc. For the most part though, I play 90% locked screen.

I play a mixture of the two. I set "Toggle Camera Lock" on my spacebar, so when I press spacebar I can change my view freely, but once I press it again it automatically locks to my character.

Yes. You are literally the only one.

I'm to the point where I'm so usded to locked camera I can't go back to unlocked. People claim that unlocked camera is better because you can hit skill shots easier and dodge skill shots easier but for me it's the complete opposite. I guess I have developed a 6th sense or something idk but for some reason I dodge skill shots easily with locked camera.

I play just like you. You're not alone.

I only unlock the camera when I want to check things beyond the locked camera limits. People always laugh at me, when I tell them I'm playing with locked camera, but I can see everything I want.

When I play with unlocked camera, I always lose sight of my character.

I'd just practice playing unlocked until you get used to using space to recenter the camera. Remember, it stays locked as long as your holding down space.

The only time I unlock my camera is when I'm playing as a really long-range champion like Varus or Xerath or if I'm aiming a global ultimate. I like having my champion in the center of the screen as it's much easier for me to keep track of.

I don't play with camera lock, it fucks up how I look around the map

How can anyone play with such a limited ability to see their surroundings? Locked camera feels like playing with blinders on.

If you want a champion that will help force you to adapt to unlocked camera (being forced to do something is good for practice), try Xerath. Between the Q range and the Ult you often need to look beyond the range of the locked field of view.

I play with the camera unlocked and I controle it outside of my awareness.

DogIsGod9/28/2015, 2:39:29 PM1 votes

I keep my camera unlocked, off-sided and press space bar to reset it onto me.

Downfall9/28/2015, 3:49:57 PM1 votes

Most of my play is done with locked camera, as others have stated unlocking is pretty much only done for long range ults or skill shots. I don't think it's a bad thing at all, it does make a few things more difficult but you can still do well with locked camera.

Locked camera. All day er day

FakeGravity9/28/2015, 4:17:54 PM1 votes

That moment when your cámara accidentally lock on and you are like "oh god no I'm going to die! Make it stop!" But seriously once you get use to is so much easier to just move your cámara around and press space when you need to be center again there no real reason to loss vision using lock on screen

I use the y button at the beginning of the game and unlock it when I want to look somewhere else only to come back to an ambush

Laustin Space9/28/2015, 9:05:18 PM1 votes

I really wish there was a keybinding that's the opposite of spacebar. Hold it to unlock then the camera centers back to locked when you stop holding it.

The only reason why I'd want to lock camera is to zoom in and watch my Nidalee dance. XD Seriously, she is the best spear-dancer.

P.S. I am an old-school RTS/DOTA player, so I just can't get used to the locked camera.

Purple side is way to shitty with Camera lock, so I just hold space bar (Toggle lock) instead.

You're weird

KPsWorld9/28/2015, 4:22:42 AM1 votes

I always leave camera lock on.

Evewynn9/28/2015, 4:40:53 AM1 votes

I always play locked camera.

It's not so bad, but it does limit your champion pool by a little bit. Champions like kog, azir, xerath are really difficult to play due to the range of their kits extending just outside of the locked zone. Champs with global ults I just unlock really quick then press y after I'm done with whatever I'm doing. You're also practically going in blind if the action is pretty far south of you.

I should change to unlocked camera, but it's a hard habit to break for me. I also play with a track pad so it is a little more difficult to move my mouse long distances quickly and constantly, but that's more of a personal issue.

I play with camera lock on. And a trackpad.

Yet I still do quite well in my games.

i fluctuate between both

KafkaBrother9/28/2015, 6:20:00 AM1 votes

i have my camera on semi-locked so i can move it around but keep my character on the screen.. but i also hot keyed lock/unlock feature so i can view around the map or in the fight area.

normally fight with semi-locked because i have instant cast on and the i use the relative location of my champ as my indicator of the abilities.
