Gnar is a good champ if you get the hang of him probably best in the top lane i just bought him like a week ago and ive been doing alright with him.His passive really helps since hes so squishy early game you gain a lot of armor which will help in team battles or 1v1 but either way he's a simple character moves are good and easy to build

Incredibly good, probably the best top laner if the Ryze nerfs go through next patch.

He's godlike once you learn him.

But I wouldn't suggest him if you're only interested in some easy freelo He has a pretty significant skill floor ( is an odd mixture of Draven and Vayne when in mini form), so if you aren't very good at him, you'll end up like many of the other Gnars you usually see who just feed and feed.

If you want an easy win, I suggest picking up ryze, who's just as strong, and easier to play.

However, if you're willing to invest the time and effort into him, there's very little Gnar cant do.

He:

  • Is strong in Lane

  • Pushishes bad trades extremely hard

  • Has a great mid and late game

  • Deals tons of damage while being tanky

  • Has TONS of CC

  • Brings a lot of utility in Mega Form

  • Is uncatchable in mini-form

-Is impossible to run away in mini form from without some serious peel or fancy jukes

  • Has a versatile build path

  • Has no hard counters in lane (can win any matchup if played well)

  • Can farm with Q even if zoned

My usual build on him is Brutalizer > Lucidity Boots > Kendelgem Tank. I run 5% runes an masteries so that I can easily reach 40% CDR early game. Gnar scales best with CDR because it's one of the few stats that benifits both forms.

A common misconception about Gnar is that he needs Attack speed to deal damage. And it makes sense, after all more attack speed = more W procs = tons of damage right?

But since Q is an auto attack reset, all you need to do is max out your CDR and you have a spammable skillshot nuke that not only deals damage and applies your W, but also resets your AA so you're able to proc those W's super quick, with virtually no attack speed items at all.

In mega Form, you wont even benifit from the attack speed becasue 90% of your damage comes from your abilities. So naturally, you want your CDR capped out so you can get off as many spell rotations as possible.

The best Offensive Items for him are

Trinity Force

Tons of Damage! No seriously. He's an even better Trinity Force user than corki! His Q is like a corki Ult, except it never runs out of Ammo, giving you infinite Sheen procs in both forms! The Phage procs synergize well with your W, giving you insane mobility for kiting and chasing. Pair this item up with a Ghostblade, and even Mega Gnar can't be kited!

...speaking of which

Ghostblade

Absolutely amazing Item on gnar. And cheap too!

Gives a nice burst of dps with the active, allows gnar to kite and chase better in both forms, and grants you armor pen, which is extremely helpful on Mega Gnar

Sorc Pen Boots

No, I'm not joking. These things are amazing on Gnar. I only pick these up when I go hyper carry Gnar, becasue I can easily get the rest of my CDR from other items like Black Cleaver and Zephyr. These will make your W hit that much harder, preventing enemies from being able to shrug it off with nohting but a Negatron Cloak.

Zephyr

Pretty Much Every stat you could want on Gnar. Gives some tenacity too, which is nice.

Offensive Items I dont like on Gnar

Frozen Mallet

Why do people build this? There are more slot efficient items on Gnar. Not only is Frozen Mallet incredibly expensive and cost innefecient, the only thing that makes it somewhat worthwhile, the passive, isn't even necessary on gnar. Between the permaslow on your Q, the movespeed boost on your W, the speedups from Phage and Ghostblade, AND the AoE slow active on Randuins, you have absolutely no issue sticking to foes. If you want an HP item for the sake of making your leap hit harder, Buy some tank items and a black cleaver. It's far better.

BotRK

This item actually isn't bad at all on Gnar, but It's not that good as a rush, and it's definately not core. It's a situational item at best. Only pick it up if your enemies are stacking HP (e.g. Cho'Gath, Mundo, Vlad)

Wits End

It's a great item on Mini Gnar, couples well with his W, but is absolutely useless on Big Gnar. There are better Items.

Defensive Items I like on Gnar

Pretty much your standard tank stuff. Omen, Visage, Banshees, Thornmail, Warmogs, heck, even sunfire cape are all good

he's broken good right now if you build him super tanky. either rush sunfire and build him full tank or build a triforce into randuins/banshees etc. there's no need to get anything more than that, his base damages and cc are off the charts without it. if you get any number of kills in lane you'll end up 1v5ing with him as megagnar.
