@Riot Supports mains thoughts on how to improve the role
Ive played league since the end of season 1 as a support main and have always been one since then, and the role has gotten a lot better over time however I feel there are still a lot of issues.
Champions: As a whole the support class has a variety of diff playstyles which is good but most of the champs are very dull, linear, and usually not fulfilling to play with the exception of a few... Please can we get support updates to make enchanters more interesting to play as and against as well as make support champs more unique similar to what bard and thresh are.
Items: Def have gotten way better with the addition of locket and redemption but feel like the other items kinda pale in comparision with maybe the exception of Fotm.
Sightstone: I personally don't have a problem with it but you could add multiple enchantment types to it to allow supports to semi customize what there sightstone gives them for instance one could be heal/shield power or another be mr/armor. Idk just a random idea.
Role definition: Just make the role more involved as most supports are stat sticks with visuals, kinda linked to the champion problem. Evolve the role of sup beyond just being an adc baby sitter and give them more tools to effect the map as a whole, which exist in the form of roaming but maybe help encourage that by making it easyier/less punishing (esp in experience.)
Game influence: Make someone feel like they can win the game through other means then just CCing and damage I mean I know healing/shielding is seen as toxic but if you make it actually hard or require thought would it b that bad. Redemptions a good example it influences an area and anyone that wants healed needs to stay or be in it after 2.5sec or locket where to get the most effectiveness out of it you need to use it right as damage is being applied. Give new forms of utility like mana draining or zone abilities like fioras ult when procs wheres its a giant healing circle or an area where your teammates get defensive or offensive buffs or enemies get negative. Theres a lot of options.
NEW CHAMPIONS!!!!: Support feels very left out on new champions especially in the pure support champion pool.
Gold gen.: Honestly I'm ok with where support gold gen is at I just kinda wish that supports as a whole had better base stats/kits then they currently do and hit scaling from ap and would honestly be ok with less gold if every supports kit was just stronger on its own. Especially for tank supports which actually need gold unless there alistar to really tank anything.
Heals/shields: Now I love heals and shields in any game that they are a mechanic but I wish that in league that they required more thought in most cases rather then just generic effective health in most cases. Good example would be soraka alpha ult where her ult was a single target heal that dispelled all neg debuffs which sometimes ud have to use that to maybe not heal someone but to just remove cc or zed ult fiora ult ect from them and requires that type of thinking to used to the fullest. that's my idea of what those should look like but maybe on a less extreme effect then that unless its an ult lol. Also maybe make heal/shield bot champs more interesting and more proactively influential. I know theres a lot of people who hate champions that revolve around that but there are players who like that play style and I feel like making each shield and heal matter more but have a longer cd would make it less frustrating while requiring more skill to use correctly.
Personally if I could change supports id remove gold gen for supports and just make all supports have super strong base kits that are strong enough to scale but not in terms of damage but in utility. I mean hey if I have a 2.5 sec skillshot stun that does like 200 damage and is hard to hit has a long cd id feel pretty good everytime I made a play with that or have a heal that heals for like 600 with some damage prevention but I'm prob only gonna use it once a fight if I use it correctly id way more effective as a player plus make every supports ability count for more then just being a tag along ability. And without ap scaling and real damage itd prevent a lot of abuses in other roles. Then what gold you do get could be used for SS ind wards control wards boots. But most people would prob disagree which is fine just my view pt.
But riot has been doing a pretty good job at moving the role towards a positive direction it just prob isn't enough yet. I hope we get some mass support updates tho because a lot of them just seem bland in general and a lot of them are simple I think by making almost all supports complex you make the role much more attractive towards players I mean isn't that why yas and riven are popular a lot of the time for being labled as diff to master champs why not makes supports the same but more towards utility focused kits with ccs heals shields and we already had damage supports in zyra brand and vel.
