"You can't carry as support"

I used to think this for the longest time, and I now realize how wrong I was. I am now back on that solo queue grind and hopefully getting gold before worlds.

I think the bigger problem is the idea lots of people (especially in low Elo, but even in high Elo) get into the heads that they for some reason need to carry to win games. You really don't need to carry at all. Yes, I agree that many supports CAN carry (think Annie, Brand, Sona and Leona, but there are more) but all you really need to do is be more useful to your team than the other support is. It's true that carrying will generally result in a higher win rate than simply being a good support will do, but at the end of the day as long as you have a win rate >50% you will rise in the ranks.

In fact, that's exactly how I got out of Bronze/low Silver in the first place a few years ago - I just spammed support games and did a much better job supporting my team than the enemy support (since almost nobody supports correctly in Bronze/Silver). I'm higher now, but I've mostly given up support - but only because I enjoy other roles more, not because I think support can't be used to climb.
