Why does my ping change every few months

One month it'll be 30, then 3 months later, it'll be 50, then it'll go back to 30 a few months later. Why? It's not lag, since my ping doesn't go all over the place. It just stays there for a few months. Although my ping has been stuck at 50 for a good 6 months and won't go back down.
