Why must we lock in...

I really don't understand why you're forced to lock in in the new champion select. If you forget to click lock in, but pick a champion, instead of it locking it in for you, not only does it kick you, but you get a 6 minute timer before you can join a game after one occurence. To me that is utterly r%%%%%ed. Why should we get a wait time for forgetting to click the lock in button? There's literally no reason for this at all that I can see.
