The Meta and the Community

The community is too concerned with the meta. They always report you (or say they will) in the pregame lobby when you dont pick someone that they would like.

Say you pick Yorick. You have a high likely hood of being reported or deemed a troll simply because he isnt in the meta today. The odds are you might go 1/5/13 and didnt get kills because you were facing a hard counter or something. You get reported. Or in the case that you overcome the toxicity and your jungler ganks, you win and dont (hopefully) get reported.

Another example would be picking {{summoner:2}} or summoner 13. Instant troll and needs to be reported.

I know some of you are gonna say "you cant be reported for trolling" but you should know, that reguardless of truth or not, a certain amount of reports = ban/block of some kind. The system automatically deems you as toxic if you get reported by x number of people in x number of games.

Odds are, after you are deemed a troll for not picking something that the meta is used to, you will not get support from your jungler/mid. You will not get ganks. You will not get help pushing. You will be as lonely as a Nasus in his mid game farming top lane. You will be called trash, bad, cancer, and you will be told to kill yourself. Yes you can report this, but if you are the only one that does (because the entire team is flaming you), who is more believable? The ones with all the same reports on one person, or the one with one report on maybe 2 people?

The meta is considered law in league of legends. It changes every season and if you break it, you are going to get reported or trolled all game, although you could do better. The toxicity from this is absolutely ridiculous.

Why are people not allowed to do different things? Why is the community so serious about a game that they go to the point of telling someone to kill themselves?

Because people are behind a screen and think there are no consequences, but if you're doing it in ranked, people want what the pros are doing and you certainly aren't going to see anything like Ashe with Muramana, yet it is a viable build. Everyone wants to copy the pros because playing Mid lane Varus automatically makes you LCS material.

For the most part, if you're going to do something different, do it with friends or try to sneak it into the team composition if you're able. Recently I've been taking ADCarries to the mid lane and Ahri top with great success even though my friends thought I was joking. Both are extremely strong, both are extremely viable, every match is just a situation of who is the better laner and who can take the better advantage during team fights

  1. Get into game lobby
  2. Figure out where you're going
  3. Pick your champ
  4. Alt-tab and do something else
  5. Wait until game starts
  6. Once it does: Enter -> /mute all

The reality of it is that you cannot be viably reported for picking something off-meta (although {{summoner:2}} and summoner 13 are so bad that I would definitely think you're trolling if you took them) and people know that. They'll say that just to try and get you to play something else. If they were serious, what would they even report you for? Intentional feeding? If you feed for 10 games straight and get reported in each game, I'd say that maybe you should stop feeding. Unskilled player? You can't actually get in trouble for that.

I played Bard from release. Remember when he was extremely bad and had like a 38% winrate? Picking him meant you were gonna have 9 people think you're trolling. But as long as you don't give them a reason to actually report you, then they can't. I now have over 150 Bard games, and haven't ever been banned, chat restrictions, or whatever other punishments they might hit people with.
