My Microphone wont record

Im trying to record audio for my youtube channel. Specifically im recording narration using Windows Movie Maker on a windows 10 comp, and it refuses to record my voice. No matter which recording device is active, there is no sound in the file. Volume is turned on, the current default is confirmed to work as my friends can here me in skype. any suggestions?
