Riot are the slum lords of online games.
So, I've had trolls and afks in games litterally 6 times in a row. Either on my team, or the enemy team. This kind of run isnt uncommon, though it is notably worse during the summer when all the 12 year olds get to stay up late.
People intentionally feed, leave the game, give the enemy info, and are generally utterly toxic. They have no fear of reprecussion, why would they? Getting actual concequences for behavior in this game is about as likely as being struck by lightning. After all this time, there is only one possible conclusion to draw...
Riot Does. Not. Care.
They have a huge revenue a huge player base, and a ton of their money comes from the competitive scene. Solo queue normals and ranked is their slum. They get what they can out of the casual players, and invest as little as possible into maintaining it. After years Riot still maintains the worst player base in all of online gaming. They litterally only have one game to manage, and have had years to come up with solutions, yet theyve only made hand waving attempts at fixing the issue.
The issue is that Riot is resting on their laurels, they are making money with their current system, so there is little motivation to change it. Competitive play is their cash cow. They balance the entire game around it. They continue to release exactly the kinds of champions the community hates, simply because they are more appealing to watch in a competitive context. Everyone wants to watch some kid with screwed up priorities and no real talents "outplay" people with Ekko or Kalista.
Only thing worse than solo Q ranked is the new player experience. It's a complete dump that Riot hasnt seen fit to touch since the game was in freaking beta. We still have the noob trap rune tiers, and players being artificially weakened until they grind for enough IP to get runes, and enough levels to be able to use freaking flash.
So, in an effort to threaten Riot's income a little, Ill give a heads up about a new action oriented moba about to go into open beta called "Gigantic".
It has an appealing visual style, and some verticality to it's gameplay. I see less focus on plodding PVE elements like "last hitting" and more actual gameplay.
Perhaps if the community starts to drift away to other games who's developers have learned from Riot's failures, Riot will sart to actually address some of the problems that have been plaguing the community all these years.
