How can Riot go 5 years, and make over a billion dollars, and still not give us any recourse against this cancer?

It happens to everyone, and every troll knows there's nothing you can do about it. You either dodge, or hope they are bluffing. If youre in a series, better hope someone else is feeling generous enough to dodge for you. When this happens(about every 3 to 4 games) I dont get mad at the lowlife, I get mad at Riot for making me a prisoner to these people.

You cant report people in champ select, you cant kick them, you cant mute them. The only option is to take a screenshot and send it to Riot, and hope they feel like doing something about it. Even if they do, you will never even know.

Of course, zero people from Riot will respond to this. Responding to complaints about well known issues means acknowledging them, and that means you actually have to do something about it, or risk even worse PR.

Solution: Team builder-Draft Ranked

Basically just select your role, then wait in queue, go into a Draft just like normal in random spots(ADC could be at the top, top could be in the middle, mid could be at the bottom, just totally random) and you can see if they're on your team who's going where, and then they can pick their role. People could still troll or go off-meta but for people who aren't smurfing and trying to lose to troll, anyone who will troll if they don't get a lane will be out of the picture through this.

Draft would allow for picking masteries, champions, runes, and so on based on the enemy and ally team comp, yet would still allow off-meta picks, and keep from abusing the system by punishing someone for doing so, though unfortunately there will still be trolls, but there are now, so there isn't much you can do.

If Riot implements team builder for ranked, then they actually have to address the issue of almost no one wanting to support ever.

A Miss Fortune4 votes

Not really, a lot of people like to Support including myself. Because of duos there are bound to be more Supports as well, since people like to duo bot lane in Ranked.

Still, I'd rather have to wait even 30 minutes before I play a game in Ranked than have to deal with trolls. Either way it's waste 30 minutes in a Ranked game with some angry troll, or waste 30 minutes on Twitter until I find a match.

I actually became a support main because no one liked to support back in season 3 lol, its a fun and easy role but hard to carry from support unless you are a mage like annie or zyra. Tons of support mains now and I can never support anymore.

So what you're saying is... "play a role you don't enjoy and will perform poorly in! Fuck trying to have fun!"

I think what he is trying to say is, you should know every role at a basic level.

Most people don't, so they dont climb.

There's a difference between "learn every role" (which i agree with) and "suck it up and play support because nobody else wants to." He was saying the latter.

Interesting question for you: Do you think that there's a possibility that when presented with the option of a faster queue time, it would encourage more players to explore the support role in ranked?

As a support/jungle main myself, I'm honestly curious as it's something that initially influenced my role selection when Team Builder first came out. As a result, I'm finding an extraordinary amount of pleasure in supporting the hell out of my team :).

TBH i dont think it's an issue of the number of people per roll. It's an issue of "this team got 3 adc means and one of them is an asshole"

Can we have a better answer , thread related?. ( no offence). When this draft pick ranked abomination will change? I resort to only play 1 ranked game/month just so I won't decay. I'm scared to queue for ranked even at this rate. When will you change something about this? I mean, I shouldn't even ask that because its pointless. I don't have a clear answer when it comes to when we plan on delivering solutions for this. I'm not the subject matter expert, nor on the development team responsible for this part of the player experience.

It's already been stated (both in this thread and publicly from Lyte I believe) that we're working on Ranked Teambuilder, which, IMHO would help with this issue.

FWIW, I agree that it's frustrating. I've experienced the same myself, both before and since I became a Rioter. It's never a good experience for anyone involved and the desire for the ability to take action is completely valid.

Zwill... You da man! I started playing Leona support because of the faster queue times and I've been playing support/jungle ever since. Playing support teaches you a LOT you can implement in other lanes and jungle. Like warding, freezing, setting up ganks, initiating fights and basic teamwork which I believe is heavily important in a game. I think if you ever want to be a better league player, learn support. I know sometimes you get very toxic and self involved ADCs but if you do manage to get an ADC with half a brain you'll find the experience a lot more enjoyable than other lanes. Of course in my opinion you should start with Leona as well. She's nice and tanky so you have a lot of survivability if you mess up. She's easy to learn. Her passive is great for support. Her W boost to your armor and MR is pretty neat. Her ultimate allows her to be pretty amazing in 5v5s and her initiate is a LOT of fun (read stun for days).

TL; DR: Yes. Make people start playing support. It should improve overall gameplay quality by raising skill level and map awareness. Sona/Leona are a great place to start. And if you can Nami well then you're awesome! :D

You know a riot once said a fix for the red side/blue side issue was coming too and they were going to fix it so both sides were oriented as going up. So excuse us if we actually want a bit more.

You realize your post is the equivalent of patting us on the shoulder and saying "there, there" right? You got closer to actually speaking on topic that time, but you still didn't address it. If you want Riot to stop being flamed for not communicating clearly, then answer the friggin question.

I'll restate in case you missed it- "Can you (Riot, not you personally, we dont actually care what you personally do there) do something about lobby trolls?"

Acceptable answers include

  1. no, we cant, we dont have any solutions to this problem currently and nobody is on task for finding one.

  2. No, we won't. We probably could if we devoted an employee to this task, but we aren't willing to put our resources in that area, so no one will be addressing this problem directly

  3. Yes, we are looking into it currently and when we come up with a solution, we will let you know

  4. Yes, we have a solution, here is what it is, and here is when we can start to test it in pbe

  5. Maybe - We have some ideas, here are what they are, what do you think?

FYI- You work at riot, we don't. If you dont deal with this then go talk to someone who does, dont give us the BS "not my department, son" response

Does this help you in understanding how to answer direct questions with non-dodging political bullshit answers?

Ranked Teambuilder, like normal Teambuilder, would make it difficult to formulate team comps or any sort of counterpick. Rock, paper, scissors isn't suitable for ranked. You don't even get the chance to select match-specific runes and masteries.

Trolls and intra-team quibbling aside, Teambuilder is essentially Blind Pick and there isn't Ranked Blind for a reason. Champion diversity would drop, every team would need 5 forms of hard cc just in case the other team has Shyvana, Udyr or any other champion that uses Sated Devourer effectively.

But wait, what if it's item 3724 Ezreal mid, or Kalista bot? Then we need point and click cc... crap. Gotta kick that Rumble top since they can jump off of Equalizer and hope we get someone like Maokai or at least JarvanIV, I'm in my promos and can't afford to lose this one.

I think queue times would grow very high as champions the owner didn't like kept joining - coupled with the pressure to win. I'm not sure there's a way around this that doesn't have a significant tradeoff.

It's not a viable game mode, let alone solution to the problem of trolls.

Basically just select your role, then wait in queue, go into a Draft just like normal in random spots(ADC could be at the top, top could be in the middle, mid could be at the bottom, just totally random) and you can see if they're on your team who's going where, and then they can pick their role.

That explains it all perfectly. Its not a Blind Ranked. Its still Draft pick, all you do is decide what role you're playing, queue up, then choose Champ, runes, masteries, ect in the lobby like the current Ranked.

PoisonedPeace2 votes

I think that it will encourage players to play carry supports that aren't really supports because they just want to get into a ranked game.

Lucifer2 votes

I personally don't think so. I wish it did, but I honestly think there's some major turn offs to playing support that need to be addressed first. I say this being a support main (I have over 1000 games played as Janna).

I'd like to see sightstone have some serious work done on it, and maybe even combining it with the GP5 items, especially if you're going to make the second ward upgrade automatic in the future. I think part of what personally turns me off to playing support is having to invest so much gold into sight stone and my GP5 before I can ever build anything else.

Possible Solutions: Combine sightstone with the GP5 Line Allow Sightstone Upgrades ONLY if you have a completed Gp5 item (to prevent other lanes from abusing it) Revamp the sightstone line to have AP, Health, AD, etc upgrades. Allow Sightstone to be an upgrade from the trinket line.

Team Builder is awesome for supports.

Problem is, ranked games are different.

Supports are forced to go bot lane with a player whose role pretty much forbids him from buying defensive items early. And also being particularly squishy, and most players (in lower elos) absolutely refuse to buy wards or even use their trinket.

So...yeah. Support mains have to deal with all kinds of toxicity in ranked. Partially because they are in lane with a player who feels unable to buy items necessary to protect himself, and rather relies entirely on the support to make up for his bad positioning or ridiculous ganking pressure from junglers like Rek'sai or Zac, and partially because the support is in the spotlight because they sit in lane with someone else who can watch and scrutinize them all game.

Sure, some supports can be toxic towards marskmen as well, but generally support mains don't behave this way because A) they're used to supporting bad marskmen and B) they are usually genuinely good people that pick the role they picked because they like helping people in real life and they prefer the strategic map control vision game that supports play to the PVE last hit war of top, mid or marksmen.

So that's why support is a role people avoid like the plague in ranked. Because picking support in ranked invites marksmen to be toxic and flame you all game.

my personal opinion ... i would rarely que up for support

i just dont like them ... they feel powerless

many will hate me now and try to tell me that they have utility cc and other cool stuff ... but why would i want to play a support leona when i can pick nautilus top/jungle and feel twice as impactfull because i have both the cc and the damage to back it up

let me clarify ... i am completly sure that supports are simply weaker than other champions ... the power of their utility /cc or whatever they have is inadequate to fill for the loss of damage

the only moment when i enjoy supports is early game ... because im playing with my carry to win ... not striwing to do the most with the weakes champion

Blue Socialist5 votes

Supports are sort of the unsung hero in the game when they're played right. If you look at LCS games, you'll often see the supports placing good wards to help with the vision for the team as a whole, and even helping the top laner at the right opportunities (just because you're support doesn't mean you should always be bot. Main reason for the duo bot lane in the first place is to help contest drag...but what if drag is already on timer?).

Yes, they are generally not powerful in the sense that they'll oneshot, destroy, pentakill, etc. the enemy team, but a lot of good supports can be used to cc and enemy to prevent the enemy from making a move (Thresh Q), heal your teammmates (Sona E and Soraka W), saving your teammates (Thresh W), pulling an enemy that's out of position for the team to kill (Blitz Q).

In the end, a good support is able to do a lot more than just feed the team's carry early game. In fact, some supports can go for a poke comp and decimate late-game, not all are "weak" (Lux support, Vel'koz support...while not necessarily "meta" picks, they can be insanely effective when played right). Just like jungling is completely different from laning, it's really just a matter of playing in a non-traditional sense rather than the classic "let's build up to be able to completely decimate them" kind of thing.

UPfreely2 votes

Honestly I find the most problems with the bot lane in general. No one wants to ADC or Support AT ALL in lower elos, and I can't blame them. It feels like cancer when you are with a teamate who has no idea what they're doing and their performance directly impacts yours. Think of all those 'team' projects in schools where the work all gets shoveled onto one persons plate. It's one of the most frustrating things ever. For this reason alone I will never play an all in support/adc or a sustain support. It always has to be a champion that can carry instead of 'this champion works well here.' Now adc/support CAN be fun, but low elo ranked will almost never be fun for bot lane, for good reason.

TheRainInSpain3 votes

Support mains or anyone who ends up in that role:

You have to deal with an exceptionally squishy teammate whose entire role revolves around not building any defensive items, or otherwise they are useless to your team. Even a pure damage Mage builds items that add defensive stats. Furthermore, this type of champion is intentionally handicapped (or so Riot says) so you must babysit them if you ever wanted them to be useful.

You must spend your hard earned gold on a subpar health item to provide vision for your lane. Your lane buddy will then face check every bush that is not warded and your other teammates will not purchase their trinket upgrade. They will also complain you don't have the entire map lit up, as if you actually could do that.

You cannot support anyone else because people and Riot expect the Support to solely babysit the Marksman. Not a Marksman. The Marksman. The role that is always set in stone and subtly enforced by Riot Games. Should you attempt to support someone else, maybe because you have a bad Bottom Lane Marksman, or an abusive one at that, your other three teammates will bitch and moan about the person who Refuses to Communicate.

As for your question, Zwill, new players start out playing the game as an aggressive, Creep Scoring, type of person. They don't get taught how to support anyone, and for a long time, they will simply be sharing the lane, rather than supporting anything (The fifth player who would've been the jungler does the exact same thing at Top Lane).

You don't really find many Support Mains at the lower leagues for this exact reason. You find people who end up as Supports, though.

And why? The Support role is ALL and ONLY about babysitting someone for the first half of the game, 99.9999% of the time a Marksman. The second half of the game, they hang around the team and don't really do much else outside team fights. The only Supports I see that might not have a Marksman as their lane buddy are pre-made groups. Why? Because people bitch if this is not the case. I don't care how much you push the "don't report for off meta" stipulation, people whine and moan if the support does not fulfill these things and babysits the Bot Lane Marksman.

Thee role itself is pretty damn mundane for anyone who is not a true, blue, dedicated support main. Simply put, it's not very fun to rely on passive gold income and babysit a person who is more often than not, stupid AND deliberately fragile. Getting yelled at and harassed for not building specific items or lighting up the whole map is not something people like. Support is like a damned minigame in the game.

I don't care how it's done, but I'll take damage reductions across the board on the Support role if I could influence other lanes, or provide map pressure, or long range utility. I'd be even more happy if the Sightstone was considered an Essential/Recommended item for EVERY champion. Sightstone roaming bruiser or supportive Marksman my foot. Sightstone Teemo ... Do people realize some "Supports" (official, "meta", or off meta) are so squishy that if they go near ward dropping range, they can be insta-gibbed, even with a Sightstone? Others are actually harmed by building health, which derpy dippity do, the Sightstone is built from a health item.

PressW for Wumbo2 votes

Honestly? no i don't think that this would cause people to explore support except maybe moreso in duo situations. I, however, love supporting. I (think) I'm pretty good at it, and I would definitely use the team builder ranked for support roles.

What I'm saying is that it's not likely to dissuade people from mid / top and convert them to support.

So Wow has this great thing that you can kick people from a dungeon if One person starts the kick and two others agree to it. To me this "sounds" like a great system so that people can kick if need be, but it can be used horrible. For example, I would use it to kick people that are saying "afk or feed", yet others can abuse it by kicking people for their rank, match history, or champ choice. To me whatever system they implement, it will be abused.

This is a great point. I can completely see teams kicking people for not choosing LCS/meta picks and all other manner of ridiculousness.

That being said I don't think the problem being tough is any excuse for Riot not to fix it. Players are basically forced to acquiesce to troll demands or take the loss, and one of those isn't really an option if you're in your series or care about your LP.

Exactly, The problem I see is that many demand riot fix it, but they in return don't have a solution. The just believe riot can swing and wand and fix it magically. What policy can be put in place? how can it be enforced? This kicking Idea seems good but I still fear that trolls will use it for advantage even more.

Honestly, literally almost anything could work at this point... No LP loss for early DC/AFK, vote to kick toxic players and queue again etc.

iainB852 votes

It's all about weighing the good versus the bad.

Riot's current system always favors the troll and always punishes the people who are trying to be good.

A vote kick system COULD in edge cases be abusable if four random people all agreed to kick someone for a poor reason. However, the GOOD this system would do in preventing already lost games from starting would far out weigh that.

Because there is the edge case of it being abusable -- make being kicked a light penalty such as 5 minutes to queue back up. If a player is repeatedly getting kicked, then Riot can look at that data and take appropriate action.

alaskaneagle14 votes

The basic reason riot gets away with it is they make sure their majority player base is either to stupid to even consider that an issue is an issue, or that an issue could possibly be fixed; Or they are the trolls themselves or stockholms.

Nausicäa 8 votes

The most annoying thing about this is that the troll always wins and the victims are punished regardless of what action they take.

If you dodge, then you are punished by being forced to wait 5+ minutes to queue again while the troll gets into another game immediately. If you give in to the troll you are simply encouraging their behavior and ruining your own experience by giving up your role. If you dont give in to the troll your game is ruined and you waste 15+ minutes of your time.

Dengeden2 votes

Face it, any change to champion select will just lead to trolling after the loading screen instead of before. The number of trolls will stay the same, they're not that stupid.

It amuses me to no end that you will ignore this counter argument just like Riot "ignores" you.

you cant mute them

You can block them, it's literally the same thing.

Even if they do, you will never even know.

So what? Do you need Riot to tell you that you are in the right? Do you want to call out trolls? There's no point.

That's why I said we pay as a community (which is true, because only League players pay Riot.)
