Scrabble and Words with Friends. Riot = Zynga

I'm sure plenty of you have played Words with Friends. Obviously its basically just scrabble. Not on original concept. In stores you can buy the board game version of Words with Friends, and on the box it literally says "from the creative geniuses who brought you Words with Friends app" or something to that effect.

This is patently absurd and disgusting.

Is Riot any better than Zynga? Riot built a game on others backs, and with the help of people who worked on Dota, which was built on the back of work that Blizzard did. All they did was modify, after receiving a multi million dollar loan from a venture capital group.

Don't make the mistake of thinking they are exceptionally talented or skilled at this. They were early into the market, and the barrier to entry now to compete is really tough.

Riot remaining at the top isn't testament to their creativity or skill, or how much we like them. Its a testament to how much we like gaming and the crap we are willing to tolerate from companies like Riot so we can keep gaming.

And of course, ego won't allow anyone at Riot to understand this, which is why the serve up stupid decision after stupid decision, often having to undo those decisions from the outcry by us. Us, the gamers who immediately can spot a dumbshit decision, yet Riot who supposedly does...what? Analysis? Somehow can't figure that that crits mastery would be abused hard? They eventually changed it because it was broke AF. SO you really gotta wonder just how much thinking and logic goes into their decision making process and what their leadership is like.

Okay you kool-aid drinking Riot fanboy drones, go ahead and spew your hate towards me now. I'm ready.

Hmmm... an interesting an argument and every word it true however what sets riot apart is a few things. Those things are:

  • Low barrier to entry.
  • An absurdly good advertising campaign.
  • As well as and I think this is a good thing not a bad they listen to the community.
  • You can play casually and still compete.

As for riot copying DOTA, that is correct as well. In fact, back in season two and one they actually admitted to working with the creators of DOTA all stars. All your arguments are valid but really I don't care, and a lot of the arguments you make can be easily positive you just try to twist and weave them into a negative.

God people like you are annoying, and that's all I'll say.

Rule #1: never believe sales guys. They always overhype stuff.

I don't think I've heard of anyone calling Riot creative geniuses in the MOBA space. I've heard them called successful, I've heard people praise the skins, or enjoy the mechanics/lore of a certain champion, but never have I heard the company as a whole described as creative.

I think that the game is just fine. Yeah, it's copying dota, but dota comes from blizzard. It's a double copy.

Second, Riot is plenty creative. Just look at Camille, Ivern, and aurelion Sol. Those champs are insanely creative.

Finally, I'm going to trust the people who actually have degrees in game design over some players who are upset because something new was added to the game to keep it fresh.
