Another patch, another xin buff...but the hell with Aatrox right?

Auto-attacking "drain tank" types have historically been hard to balance, and are very easily broken.
Remember Feral Flare Warwick? That's what happens when even one thing goes awry with balancing this kind of champion.
Aatrox's power budget is strangled by his passive and W, and he needs a fairly significant overhaul to give his kit more room to work with.

finally someone understands what I have been trying to say
Technically this guy is 100% correct....
But I still max E and rush Gunsblade because that's how the real playas get down in the toplane.
aatrox needs a rework
he isn't epic enough
Times are tough fellow Darkin...
Also if people want to actually look at his kit again, it's not even that bad (in terms of being overpowered). He has pitiful base stats, health being one of the more important ones. Has almost TOO much counterplay or balance towards him (heal is only significant when you're below 50% and at that point, they will attempt to burst you all in one go, Q gets interrupted by everything and has long as f*** cooldowns). No AD steroids, no Crit steroids, no Armor/MR steroids, shitty scalings (come on most of his crap is hybrid scaling but he doesn't benefit from going AP!) and just a whole bunch of Attack Speed (Which they nerfed in the early game a loooooooooooooooooong time ago) oh and also, that Attack Speed gets absolutely crippled if you were put into passive. Oh yeah, and his health costs... 10% of his current health just to engage and be interupted by anything (nami bubble, rammus who's on the fking ground, etc), nice!
Even in his prime, the 'drain tank' concept wasn't exactly working out for him. Everyone went the same build in S3, Bork + Hydra, Boots, SV + Randuins, optional last item. I remember a quote by someone in one of the old forum posts "Aatrox is the brusiest bruiser to ever bruise" and I think that's how he felt best in S3, just a really good bruiser. I feel as though he was only ever "oppressive" in S3 because honestly, all bruisers were pretty binary and out of all of them, he had the best stats? I'm not even sure, even in the LCS I remember Jax, Irelia and Renekton were all picked more often than he was.
In terms of pre-reworked poppy levels of O/P? I don't think Aatrox had an ulty that invalidated 4/5 people of a team from him lol.
tl;dr - aatrox was made in an era where he was strong, that era has long since gone. Please give him some love, a bit of hp and armor never hurt anyone... :^)
Actually played Aatrox just a bit ago, and he really does feel fine overall aside from his health, but at the same time, giving him more health would mean he can drain tank sooner and longer.
But in all honesty, even if Aatrox was INCREDIBLY strong, Irelia and Jax will probably always be more frustrating to play against, and will probably be able to duel him no matter what. He doesn't have any sort of "burst" aside from doing a minute amount of damage with his q and e, and then /some/ AP damage with his ult. Both Irelia and Jax do more bust damage than him due to sheen procs and the amount of base damage that is on their abilities. To add insult to injury, Irelia has a two second stun duration with her equilibrium strike, and Jax can avoid all basic attacks for two seconds before stunning all of the targets in an AOE. Sure, Aatrox has a 1 second knockup on his q, but only if somebody gets hit in the center. His damage is almost only in AD aside from a really clunky skillshot on E, and a small AOE with his ult, so you can build armor and reliably take much less damage from him, wheras Jax does AD and AP, and Irelia does AD and TRUE DAMAGE, along with some AP damage on her E and R. Honestly, the only things Aatrox has on either Jax or Irelia is the sustain from his w (which in some cases, Irelia heals for more), and the easy to dodge, moderately damaging e for poke.
Basically what I'm saying is, due to how these champions kits work, and how similar they are, Aatrox would have to have some insanely good stats to be somebody you would pick over Jax or Irelia, but even then them or a Teemo would probably still destroy him. The only real use I can find from Aatrox at the moment is stabbing somebody that gets loads of HP, but no real resistances, such as Vladimir or Singed.
Don't get me wrong, he's fun as hell, and honestly, playing against an Aatrox (even an ultra fed one) feels less frustrating that playing against a Jax or Irelea.
If you can't tell, I'm salty that these champions are in the game because of the amount of damage they do, both burst and sustained, whilst taking next to none. Add some extra salt to Irelia because she can't even be CC'd for long due to her passive tenacity.
You see the thing is, I don't think Aatrox is a successful drain tank at all. Warwick and Olaf do it so much better. Pretty much, his heal is only significant or even worth noting when one of two things happen: 1. he has a charged blood well and is able to consistent auto attack creeps or champions to heal or 2. actually forking out gold to buy lifesteal items WHICH won't save him from being bursted down like Irelia and Jax.
I don't think Aatrox is 'fine' right now, he's actually in a pretty sub par spot. His kit functions but it lacks cohesion, is bland and has too many ways to be exploited by the enemy, given the fact that he is a very binary champion (which is not necessarily a bad thing, I'd rather bland than overpowered and disgusting).
The fact that Jax, Irelia and Xin Zhao have so many alternative steroids to keep them alive whilst also being allowed to dish out even MORE damage than Aatrox was the point of my post. I feel even if he would be reworked, it would be nice for Aatrox to receive some QoL buffs too even if just for the time being. It doesn't have to be anything fancy like an AOE fear on his ulty like so many seem to want but just a nicer amount of hp and hp growth or armor growth would be more than satisfactory.
I want to re-iterate that he is not a successful drain tank as his W does scale well enough to provide the necessary amounts of healing for a drain tank since he's probably only going to buy 1 - 2 offensive items and the rest defensive. His passive also provides little to no protection in early game skirmishes and even late game team fights. If you get popped you're more than likely going to be popped again. I'd rather they just scrap that pathetic stasis and give him something more suitable to be a front line fighter but that's more of the conceptual rather than the practical.
tl;dr - Aatrox is not in a good state, he is overshadowed by nearly all if not all other bruisers in the top lane. Please give him some compensation buffs in the meantime whilst his rework is in the works. He has 0 defensive steroids and his 'draining' is very limited, a small boost to hp and hp growth will help bring him back in line with the other bruisers/fighters.
I agree with you on that, I definitely feel Aatrox is in a really bad state right now. I always felt that it is ridiculously easy to interrupt his Q. I also consider his passive borderline pointless...every time it procs, i end up dying afterward. I mean, WHY IS HE SO SQUISHY FOR BEING A TANK !?!
On a side note...I do think that he should have a minor rework. I thought of one a while ago where his passive would be changed from a 'second life' with bonus aa speed to a version of Tryndameres ult, where the length of the 'refusing to die' would depend on the amount of blood in his blood well.
Oh well....I still have hope that someday he will get some attention. However, he does kinda feel like the new Yorick.

Yup, him too!
Aatrox is in the poppy scenario
The reason the old poppy was never buffed, is for when you looked at her as a whole, her toolkit was actually very very powerful. She had everything a champion would want, from steroids, to cc, to a ten second kayle ultimate.
So riot replaced some things in her old toolkit to make her a champion who is still good but possible to balance.
Aatrox is in the same scenario.
Strong CC off Q, A amazing steroid off his ultimate, amazing sustain off his W, and decent poke off E that can even help you pick off stragglers who are running in team fights. Not to mention a aniva passive.
Aatrox won't be buffed untill he gets a new toolkit that is possible to properly balance, you don't want this champion to be strong. For when he is, you get a melee version of vladimir, who becomes a high dps mega tank off self sustain, not to mention if he decides to split push, legitmately no one can one v one him.
aatrox could totally be balanced, perhaps increased damage for when he hits the center of his Q. maybe increased movespeed when he ults.
lots of things could be done, they've just turned a blind eye to him outright.
havent tried at all on the PBE

Feast or famine champions have been known to be generally ignored..
Am I the only one that would rather have Aatrox be unbalanced and strong, than Irelia and Jax being... the way they are now? At least with Aatrox he either does little damage and heals forever, or you can burst him down both times fairly easily with at most 2-3 champions.
What you just said that you liked about aatrox is exactly what makes him meh. Making aatrox viable would mean allowing him to do both at the same time. Buffing him in other ways would make him like karma, insanely powerful moves that just don't work well as a kit.
That's because the game kinda sucks when aatrox is strong.
which is only in relation to his "unkillable" ness which leads to an auto win. but he could retain his current "vampire" life steal theme without revolving around it by influencing other areas of his kit besides his W.
At that point it might as well be a rework
well thats where we disagree, i think they could make very minor additions or number changes to do it, but back to the original complaint, they haven't tried any at all.
Well, Jax can 1v1 Aatrox because of counterstrike. Can't heal up when your aa's are hitting. Irelia can 1v1 Aatrox no matter what as well, because if he is winning a fight, you equilibrium strike and kill him while he is stunned for all eternity. I feel that a good Teemo would effectively neutralize the effect of an Aatrox as well.
Meanwhile, no one is buying
...
Alas,
has to wait until
gets fixed. sigh
Yorick and Ryze are being worked at by different teams, but Yorick is a minionmancer so he'll take longer. Yorick did NOT get delayed because of Ryze....

I didn't say that directly. Riot said it. They said Yorick will be released after the Ryze rework. Just quoting what they said. At least he will be here before 2017.
Is Ryze going to delay Yorick, our big VGU planned for release after Ryze?
The answer to this is no. Ryze has not delayed the Yorick Update.
Drain tank champs are very hard to balance regardless of their kit and is the reason Akali and Warwick get dumpstered whenever they're strong
