You know what would make the game more engaging? Daily quests.

And before anyone points this out, yes this is a direct reference to Heroes of the Storm, but you know what? It works. Every day that I'm not too busy I'll play a couple of games of HotS for the nice bonus gold, I really wish I had an incentive to play a few games of League every day. Usually I just sit around dreading the concept of Solo queue too much to jump in, and it isn't until some new content suddenly comes out or all of my friends are online that I get back into League.

Besides, we've been needing IP gain buffs for a while.

After Bilgewater: Burning Tides, I'm not too keen on quests. Seriously, the quests felt like:

  1. Get 100,000 gold
  2. Get 5 pentakills
  3. Win 50 games
  4. Get a pentakill with a Karthus ult
  5. Solo Baron 25 minutes into the game
  6. Outplay Faker
  7. Nerf Irelia
  8. Buy milk
  9. AFK in 17 ranked games
  10. Last hit every tower in 1 game
  11. Find a cure for cancer
  12. Convince yourself that Teemo is fun to play against

I don't like the idea. It's one of the main reasons I stopped playing HOTS.

Daily quests are like chores. They become to consume you and kinda force you to play just for the sake of gaining a little boost towards your next champion. Games are about you deciding when to play them, and the main reward is fun not virtual currency.

In addition, they make players, who can't finish them, feel like they missed out on something or "failed to accomplish" something. That's not a good morale boost for a competitive game like this. Look at what's up with Hearthstone. They have a lot of quests that ask you to win to gain reward, but with limited amount of good cards for new players, it is freaking hard to do that. You have to go through 5 losses to some rich-ass legendary card collector to get a single win. That's really frustrating.

The best way to reward people, is to do so without forcing them to play, and the reward must not be known. I played DOTA2 starting from beta and I loved the way they rewarded a cosmetic item every time you leveled up account. The beauty of that was the fact that you are not forced into a time frame of when you accomplish this, and the reward that you'd get was not known to you. It might've been common or an legendary, or even arcana......you never knew. It wasn't like a job you had to do to get paid. It was just a gift for spending your time having fun (or raging, in some cases).

Overall, I think it would be a bad idea, and I am fully against such "rewards". Seeing as I recently just started this game, it would be sad if I had to leave it for the same reason that I left HOTS.

See, if you compare League's IP gains to HoT gold gains, daily bonus quests give out less gold than regular first wins in league.

HoT has ATROCIOUS gold gain, while League of Legends does it pretty spot on in my opinion. I never feel like I'm grinding in league, only gaining things while I play.

Too anyone who doesn't know, HoT offers I believe 100~ gold per daily quest, sometimes more sometimes less, and the regular gold gains per game? 20 if you lose, 30 if you win.

Of course, that's without me telling you that heroes cost, at most, 10000 gold. Unless they're new, then they cost 15000 gold.

Yes, there is a smaller price, it goes 2000, 4000, 7000, and then 10000. Still, that's many days until you can get a low cost hero.

There ARE other ways to get gold, playing 1 hero and leveling their mastery points a lot will give you gold, more than a daily quest, but that's a different matter.

All in all, HoT would give close to nothing WITHOUT daily quests, League of Legends stills gives more IP without the system.

ehhh, I'm going to have to agree with the people saying "no." In HOTS I've had the 'play 3 games as a warrior' stuck in my dailies for weeks. As someone who knows what she likes to play, that is annoying as BALLS.

plus once you play for a couple seasons you have nothing to spend IP on and it just plies up... and up.

However, I would actually be for giving players who aren't lvl 30 yet quests like that, help them get a little more starting IP and have them try different things to see what they really like/what they're good at.

Weekly quest objectives

Achieve 5 baron buffs 300IP Reach 5 dragon stacks in one game 500IP Get first blood or assist in it 200IP Achieve a penta kill or assist in all 5 kills toward a penta kill 777IP Upgrade your trinket 10 games in a row 9001IP (the IP bonus is a joke but this should be one for like 300IP, because they need to help encourage people to at least upgrade their trinket and using it will be more encouraged because they are now investing in it)

These are examples of good "weeklies" as they focus on things that actually help you in game

Edit: this is summonses rift specific, they could also put dailies in for the other maps

You know what would be just as good? Getting a First Win of the Day Bonus on all four maps.

Daily quests are more like a chore than they are anything fun. I know too many people who only log into WoW to their daily quests and don't even have fun doing it, it's just it feels absolutely necessary to them to do to maximize progress.

I could see something like this working well.

There could also be weekly or daily community quests, such as "kill 20,000 gromps" or something like that. (I know, RIP Gromp) For completing these goals as a community, everybody who participated in the collection of 20,000 gromp kills (or something along those lines) would get, say, a bonus of 50 - 200 IP. Small numbers, yes, I know, but it's just as an example.

I'd honestly want Daily Quests just to do them, maybe with IP or maybe a once a week or month quest that gives us an icon or maybe even something like a rune page.

Goddamn, that reminds me of all these shi*y FTP games for android. No, I don't want anyone to tell me which position/map/champ I have to play in order to get IP. Those GP quests were okay for the event itself, but even though they remained only for a short time I got annoyed by them. If I want to play ARAM I'll do it. If I want to play support and get loads of assists then I'll do it. If I want to play a carry and earn loads of gold then I'll do it. But I refuse to play something I don't wanna play just to get IP. Fix win of the day so that you get it each day rather than every 22h. 'but you could get 2 win of a days within 1 hour' - so what?

no thanks.

ReQnosis9/21/2015, 11:28:32 AM1 votes

So you want Riot to add some features by focusing on Habituation?

IE: Getting you to "play League" as part of your daily routine.

Reference: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hQtFo_E_Ea0

*Fun Fact from the video: Did you know that the "Rest EXP System" in World of War craft was originally designed and presented as a system to "penalize" you for playing too much?

~

That being said, I actually wouldn't mind some sort of quest system to get bonus IP.. but then again, I'd also like to see the "Mastery" system for any one given champion actually reward you with skins/recolors/IP/ect for getting better with a given champ.

As far as I know, we only get a silly little "emote" for maxing out a champions "Mastery".

Shosuko9/21/2015, 1:35:57 PM1 votes

I think maybe they should scrap ARAM and make a Casual mode where it's 5v5 but everyone has static gold / xp gains so you can fuck around w you mates and not worry about your noob friend snowballing.

Seriously - the biggest thing that sucks about league is that I can't play with my friends at all. If I jump in for a game it's snowball one way or the other... I tried creating a smurf account to ease my playing with mates, but the bots bros o_O the bots... Plus I own a shit ton of champs and skins and want to use them :\

I feel like the Daily Win currently in place is the only way to keep things from getting complicated.

Let's say there's a daily quest to get 15 kills (maybe even in 1 game), you're going to have people delaying games so that their tank/jungler/support can get their kills. Let alone that people are going to queue up for carry roles more than usual on those days, meaning people in team builder would wait even longer to find supports, and the few ones you do find will be Zed, Cass, or Brand.

Win the Freljord/Ultimate Hunt events. Now your team's Ashe is focusing the enemy Sejuani in teamfights, your assassin chooses to go over the free kill on the enemy adc to try and get their assassin. Also bear in mind that people will be more likely playing champs (or roles) they're not comfortable with, increasing the chances of the player doing poorly and getting flamed because their team, which might want nothing to with the quest, also get burdened.

The only way people can be incentivized to play, without risking people intentionally playing sub-optimally, would be to tell them to win. Even that runs the risk however of increasing toxicity, people leaving queues if people play non-meta champions, flaming people for doing poorly, people playing more games than they want to simply for the reward.

If Riot did want to experiment with and expand upon the idea, the way that I see raising the fewest problems would be giving each map it's own Daily Win. People would play The Crystal Scar and Twisted Treeline more, increasing fervor for those modes and compelling Riot to keep a closer eye on the balance of those modes (to their probable dismay). It still does run the risk of increasing toxicity as mentioned before, but I've seen no alternative with more preferable consequences.

i really wish they would revamp the win of the day, feels really dissatisfying when you're on a lose streak. would be nice if they could stack up to 2 to eliminate the schedule grief
