Let's face it. Certain champions became unpopular af because Yasuo, Riven, Lee Sin & etc exists.

Everyone wants to play that one champion who has incredible amounts of mobility.

Everyone wants to play that one champion who doesn't require a lot of resource to execute combos & abilities.

Everyone wants to play that one champion who has a strong early game steroid to rekt their opponents early.

And it's all because of this that made tons of resources to reworks like Sion such a big fat waste. Up til now, I'm still sadden by the fact that it took Riot about 5 years to properly give Yorick the best & healthy update he can have after all the waiting & questioning & complains they had to endure, only to ended up racking a pitiful +1% of playrate til today.

I'm not saying those reworks made them weaker or whatever, it's just that champions like himself, in the perspective of Yasuo/Rive/Lee Sin mains, were just too chore-ish, like why pick him when you can just pick someone like Riven to spam abilities without having to cost so much resources or needing crap like making graves before attacking & such? Yorick & Sion can have the potential to deal a ton of damage & possibly carry the game, but no one wants to explore that road when they can just do it easily on those 3 Musketeers instead.

I'm just saying these imo. Usually the one thing I would hope for is having those 3 champions & others related to have some tweaks or nerfs in order to not make them oppressive af, but I'd be afraid to trigger their mains in doing so. So instead, I'm looking forward to the Tank Update, where a Rioter said that the item & champion changes should impact the current meta, one mainly being Lee Sin himself, as said in this thread:

https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/yAk81Exd-can-we-get-a-brave-riot-member-to-comment-on-why-lee-sin-and-graves-are-in-every-game

And a small reminder. This is NOT a thread about me QQ'ing for being rekt by them. I destroy them in some games, I get rekt by them in some games, but all these won't solve the unpopularity Yorick & others similar are facing right now.

How did this thread become about fucking Yorick?

The OP's point was that people prefer flashy, action-heavy, resourceless snowballers over champions with well-designed kits that contain both strengths and weaknesses. For all of their "skillcap", these champs are NOT hard. They may be hard to play at a high skill level, but it's not that hard to faceroll through lower elos as Riven without any idea how to animation cancel or play her mechanics well. Riven, Yasuo, Zed and Lee Sin are all strong 1v1 duelists without mana concerns. They don't have to do pesky things like conserve resources waiting for an opportunity to go in. They don't have to worry about being caught out. They are ALWAYS capable of just going ham on someone and hoping for the best. They're also all VERY mobile too, so escaping from bad spots (including ones they put themselves in) is far easier for them than most. It may take a lot of skill to master them... but it takes VERY LITTLE skill to play them against lower tier players and do well, thanks to how snowbally and aggressive they are, and how full of mobility and utility their kits are.

His point is that, for the most part, Yorick and Sion are the epitome of well-designed kits, from ALL perspectives. Whereas, the toxic resource-less freelo champs are poorly designed, but more liked due to the fact that bad players can do well with them. There is no such thing as a "High Skill Ceiling" on a resource-less champion.

but all 3 of these champs are boring as shit. but that's just fine for me, means i never have to contest Illaoi

Yorick has an abysmal play rate because he is genuinely the least interesting concept riot has ever put out. old yorick was cooler and they threw all that shit away

Yorick just needs a couple buffs is all.

the two champions you've listed aren't very complicated compared to the "flashy champions" you've listed.

yorick is a lot like nasus and nasus is also somewhat unpopular outside of low elo.

sion is a cc tank. he does **not **have "the potential to deal a ton of damage & possibly carry the game". what you do as sion is you cc people for days and have someone else kill them while the enemy is locked up. due to the nature of soloQ being "I can't trust my idiot teammates to do their jobs such as play damage", sion (and support) become unpopular.

at the end of the day, the two tanky champs you've listed are unpopular because like many tanks, they're boring frontline cannon fodder. simply existing and getting hit is what the team needs/expects. intercept a skillshot here, force the enemy to burn their cc/summoners there, zone their assassins and stand in front of baron/elder dragon;that's all a tank needs to do. If there was more we wouldn't consider singed a viable top lane tank. Simply existing in the frontline and building defensive is all a tank job is, and there's not really much room to learn or grow as a player when that's the case.

Yorick is boring. There is no playmaking potential. And there are no different options to face a certain situation. So let's just delete all popular champions that have a high skillcap, play making potential and a versatile kit, so that yorick becomes popular. Great idea.

Have u considered that those champs u listed are so popular due to their huge skillcap?
