Of course there are a few more factors such as who you beat/lost to, the soft reset, and a few other small things, but overall this is pretty much the reason.

Lol, did you know that Theoddone is now in Platinum. He was a friggin challenger and he dropped to platinum. I guess his mmr is just low.

You do know that for a new season to matter, everyone also has to be dropped lower or completely reset in rankings, right? otherwise a new season means nothing.
