The problem with "Click Bait"
When posting something on the boards (important or not), there's an issue we all come across: Getting it seen. I've never been able to, in all the things I post on (League boards, Whisper, Facebook, Etc.), get my post anywhere near popular (100+ likes/heart/whatever). Personally, I don't have a problem with that. When I do though, it's when I have an idea that is worth sharing, like, oh, idk.... SOLUTIONS TO PROBLEMS. Everyone seems to want to complain (on whatever board they're on) about anything and everything, but no one wants to try to fix it. Now this just happens to be annoying... a lottle. So whenever anyone wants to put out a SOLUTION for a PROBLEM, the title they use to accurately describe what they're talking about makes their work just seem like another aimless rant with no solution. As you can tell, this can cause problems.
So the solution to this problem? Well make the title more interesting! Something that people will want to click! That's it, right? Make the title something everyone is going to want to see! Then they'll see all your great ideas, right?!
No.
If you give your writing an interesting title that people will want to click, more likely than not, it won't be able what you're talking about anymore, and in the comments you'll get blown up with: "CLICK BAIT" "OMG, MISLEADING TITLE" "TITLE DOESN'T HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH WHAT YOU'RE WRITING ABOUT!" And the list goes on and on.
Don't get me wrong, not everyone that uses a click bait has good things to say. Like most articles and posts with "normal" or "accurate" titles, most "click bait" titles have poor ideas in them.
But this isn't true for all of them:
I personally don't like posting on the boards, and I realistically only go on them to check to see if other people are having the same problems as me. But when I do post something, 20% of the time it's a solution to a problem, and the other 80% is me commenting on someone else's post.
Now there are great ideas out there, I must admit. I've gone through my fair share of posts, and found quite a few that I found quite interesting. The issue is, they have no real views because their titles are "boring" yet quite accurate. On the other side, I've seen some really bad posts that have "interesting" titles, but not really accurate at all.
My solution? More direct titles. Stop hating people for click baiting if their ideas are good. Stop downvoting posts because the title doesn't 100% match what they're talking about. Downvote posts when the stuff inside is bad, but the cover of it all. Be more open to reading posts with "Boring" titles, because you never know, they might have great information inside. Make your +1 and -1 accurate to the quality of the post, not he accuracy of the title to the post. The reason why everyone calls the League community so toxic (other than clear trolls/flamers) is that we don't support each other. Give each other a chance, stop being so critical about every small detail, and remember anyone can have a good idea, but wording the title isn't everything. [slayer-pantheon-thumbs]
