I have question for you Riot. You know you created a competitive game, right? That being said, trash talking comes with the territory. Why are we shunning others of their freedom of speech? Is it because there are more sensitive players, and you feel like you'll lose more in your player base? The sad truth is, someone could spend $100's on this game, and you'll still permaban them. Always quick to evoke punishment, but will have us suffer with your unbalanced champions. As a company, you guys have become so soft, since launch. After Season 3, it became league of feelings. Always trying to appease to the weak minded that let text effect their gameplay. It's sad, that at any moment, something can go wrong, someone has a bad day, and god forbid if they snap.

Idk why you're asking Riot about this. The players are the ones reporting you because they don't want you harassing them. We are all given leniency and multiple chances, so if you continue to do things the community does not approve of and get punished for it, that's on you not Riot.

You're saying harassing, without fully knowing the situation. How come assumptions come into fruition more than questions? This community is soft, and childish at best. This wasn't happening in S1 and S2, people didn't let it get to them. Now it's a fashion trend, to be sensitive.

There have been times, where I ask for coordinated plays to be executed in a friendly fashion; to only be answered with a go fuck yourself %%%got. Or the commonly used, stfu, why are you typing. Later down the line, I end up getting in the mindstate of competitiveness, and then I defend myself. I also don't see why someone's text should evaluate on how they play, there is a mute feature for a reason. I play better on tilt. I just don't know of any other gaming company that prides themselves on a shotty system.

What's more likely at fault is your judgement on "asking for coordinated plays to be executed in a friendly fashion", as I've only seen comments like that get shot down if you've already made a mess of the game.

The system ignores inaccurate reports, and the average player is reported (accurately or inaccurately) between 1/100 and 1/20 games. For you to be getting any sort of punishment, you're likely being reported a lot more than that.

The system isn't as intricate as you think. I don't know how long you've been playing for; but there's been times where it has banned people over the most minute things.

Started playing regularly around when Jinx was released, and I don't know a single person in real life (of the dozen or so people I know who play the game) who has gotten banned.

No, it does not ban you for the most minute things, your definition of minute things is very different than the social norm of the people in North America.

Just because you're disagreeing, doesn't dictate the social norm. I just feel like this community has dwindled down to some child that throws a tantrum, when they see a few words that can be offensive at best annoying. Knowing that most mature gamers, just ignore and explore.

The social norm is whatever the report system is doing, since it's based almost entirely on what the playerbase is actually reporting. DrCyanide's thoughts here are the social norm for League of Legends, and it's what the vast majority of the community expects.

Knowing that most mature gamers, just ignore and explore.

I consider myself a hardcore gamer, and in no way do I want this community to think flaming each other is acceptable. I'd rather not have to ignore people being dicks to each other, because if that isn't even happening to begin with it's not something I have to think about.

I'm not defining social norm, the system is. You don't get reported enough times to get any punishment if you're in the social norm, since it's players who have to report you. By definition, if your behavior was the norm, then most players of the game would be getting punishments, instead of a minority who are currently punished.

I find it amusing that more often than not the people who try and claim the game should be for a "mature" audience based on language are the ones acting the most immature, bursting into fits of rage or saying the worst things they can think of when a situation doesn't go their way. Mature people don't do that, they know how to keep things together and push forward.

See the difference? Trash talking is not punishable in League of Legends, but flaming/being a dick is. Rule of thumb: if it's a direct insult, keep it to yourself.

Freedom of speech has precisely nothing to do with anything you're talking about. The first amendment extends only to the government; Riot is a private business, which means they can do basically anything they want to limit your ability to speak freely.

Riot is a large company now so they cant stay "hip" with the "hardcore gaymers" or bother listening to any real feedback because they're too busy making their game as accessable to as many people as possible, which is lowering the quality of the game. Your name is fitting. The simple solution is to stop being a douche. Nobody wants to listen to your verbal diarrhea, not even your own team.

Besides, Riot wants this game to be treated like a sport. That means good sportsmanship should be encouraged and enforced. Pro players in the NFL get fined for doing things that are unsportsmanlike. The only difference is what is defined as unsportsmanlike in a digital arena is different than in a physical one.

Okay, so one person said that, and that speaks on a plethora of other competitive games. Listen to the voice chat in their games. I've yet to see Doublelift fined for anything.

If you're going to be pedantic about who said what, here's a link for you. I expect you'll make up some excuse about it being Wikipedia so it's not valid or "that's real life, this is a video game" or whatever, but at least I tried.

I've yet to see Doublelift fined for anything.

Congratulations. We are not professional players, and are not under even remotely similar levels of stress. He is also doing this in voice chat rather than typing it to the enemy team, and is grouped with people he knows extremely well.
