Let me break it down for you. Assuming you weren't higher than Silver the season before, (which you're not or else you'd have a gold badge) usually your provisional has a "base MMR" which is the Match Making Ratings that is calculated from your previous season performance that goes through a formula that basically "resets" your MMR.
Your Provisional works like this: You play a game at Base mmr (usually 1200-1300) and from there when you win, your MMR increases exponentially until you lose. When you lose, that is the provisional ceiling and your next game will be in between the MMR you won and the MMR where you lost. From there, if you're lucky, you're placed on the upper end of the middle ground or the lower end of it depending on who is currently queing at that time. But they're not that far apart. That being said, your early Provisional games will be games where you're at base MMR, meaning you're playing with people who have low MMR (high bronze low silver) OR people who haven't ranked yet (inexperience players). In both cases, don't expect Doublelift level of plays or the level that is equal to your level. In fact, it is a level where you are probably are better than. In that case, it is up to you and only you to perform above the MMR level (by a pretty high margin) to win the game for your team. Seriously. But that is why high elo players like Plat + Diamond stay consistent. They might lose their provis here and there, but if they finish their provis into silver for example, (which is very unlikely. They have to lose 10 games of the provisional while duoing with silver or bronze) if they are actually plat level, they'd get out of silver in less than a week. I can actually get to Gold from low silver/ high bronze in less than a week. I got hacked and when I recovered my account I found out the guy who hacked me sucked at this game.
